It is a well-known fact that people often play a sport in order to win, but should this
be the main goal of sports? To my mind there are numerous reasons why people
should engage in physical activity.
First of all, people play a sport because they want to have a better physical condition
and be fit. This means that when you have a health problem, you may improve it
with exercise. If we all follow that we will have a better quality of life.
Furthermore, by taking up a sport, people develop their social skills. For example,
they will increase their cooperation with the other members of the team which, these
days, is very difficult for some of us. Consequently they will achieve a better social
life.
On the other hand, some people do not believe in these reasons and they take up a
sport only to win. For example they don’t cooperate with the other members of the
team or sometimes they do something which is unfair in order to win. As a result
they will never learn how to lose in their life.
Taking everything into account, I think that there are various reasons why people
should take up a sport and this is not only to win. Sport is a great way to learn more
about ourselves, develop our social skills while staying fit and healthy.
Notes:
You used the correct linking words, except for the 4 th paragraph.
In the 4th paragraph, you should explain the other opinion and give
justifications why it is good (don’t give the disadvantages of that opinion)
You used quite simple vocabulary. You should try to use more complicated
words and expressions because of the level.
