Science

Instruction
Read the whole chapter and answer the following questions:

1. As an Agriculture student, what is the essence of studying the subject,

Animal Science? (10 pts)

As an Agriculture student, the essence of studying animal science

is that we can prevent bad things from happening in the future, such as
the spread of diseases, because humans can also get diseases from
animals. This subject also helps us gain knowledge on how to take care
of our animals, and if we take care of them properly, there is a lower
chance that they will have diseases.

Enumerate and explain three (3) advantages of Animal Production. (15

pts)

1. Animals provide us with meat, milk, and eggs , which is a benefit

of animal production since food is one of our fundamental needs, and
certain animals create eggs, milk, and if we butcher it, it produces
meat, which we consume, which is why it is an advantage.

2. Food is a fundamental need, and nowadays food is not free. It is an

advantage that animals can be a source of income since many
people will be happy if they hear the word "income." It is necessary for
us to buy our own meat, eggs, and milk, and if we do, they will have a
source of income. However, some people sell their animals, such as
pigs, to supplement their income, not only the animal itself, but also
the animal's excrement.
3. Animal manure is a great source of methane and fertilizers, and
it's an advantage since it's highly environmentally friendly. Methane
may help lessen the greenhouse impact, and fertilizers can help
minimize water and soil pollution.

LABORATORY ACTIVITY (30 pts)

Instruction: Research for the status/situation of Animal Industry

(Poultry and Livestock Production) in the Philippines. Include statistical data,
issues/problems and countermeasures done by our government to address
these issues/problems.

Livestock and poultry are two of the most important agricultural

subsectors in the Philippines. The livestock sector's gross value
added declined by 6.9 percent in 2020, the most of any
agricultural subsector.
LIVESTOCK STATISTICAL DATA
The livestock sector
generated around 216.5
billion Philippine pesos in
gross value added in 2020.
In the same year, the sector
contributed 12.2 percent of
the agriculture, forestry, and
fisheries industries. While In
2020, the Philippines'
poultry and egg production
sector generated a gross
value added of around
POULTRY STATISTICAL DATA
175.51 billion Philippine
pesos. During the same
period, the sector provided
9.9 percent of the
agricultural, forestry, and
fisheries industry's GVA.

The African Swine Fever (ASF) was one of the issues that the Philippines faced.
ASF is a very infectious viral pig illness. To prevent it from spreading, the
authorities decided to set up a quarantine checkpoint in areas where there are
ASF instances. Also, they assigned to kill the diseased animals, followed by
washing and disinfection; even though ASF is still an issue, the government
has found a way to assist minimize the incidences.
