https://bestdelegate.com/model-un-made-easy-how-to-write-a-resolution/

- Signatory vs. Sponsor

- Sponsor has actively written the resolution (2-5)
- Signatory is okay with the gist of the resolution. Wants to see this put forward and
debated

The Order of the Debate

Delegates: Motion to begin role call

Delegates: Motion to Open Debate

Delegates: Motion to open the General Speakers List

General Speakers List is when you have 90 sec to state your countries stance on the issue and what
you hope to accomplish in the debate
You are able to yield your time on the GSL!
You are also able to open yourself up to Points of Information (POI’s) which are questions that
delegates will ask you about what you said in your speech.

Chairs: Any delegates wishing to speak on the General Speakers List please raise your placards now
(raise placard if you want to speak)

Always have three people on the GSL

After GSPL, The chair would look favourably upon a moderated caucus

Delegates: Motion to open a moderated caucus….(Topic)...(Total time).....(Speaker Time)

The total time should be around 10-15 minutes
The speaker time should be from 30-60 seconds, 45 seconds is ideal

Repeat this step multiple times for different debate topics

Delegates: Motion to open a Unmoderated Caucus for Resolution Drafting

Here you will work together to write a resolution and then present it to the chair

Then debate about the resolution.

Chairs: Could the delegate who submitted the resolution please read it through

Chairs: could the delegate give a short opening speech about this resolution and why it should pass
Chairs: Any delegates wishing to speak in favour of this resolution please raise your placard now

Chairs: Any delegates wishing to speak against this resolution please raise your placard now

made to the resolution, this is usually a clause that your country does not agree with.

Remember that if you are a P5 Country you can veto a resolution but please use this action with
responsibility and care. You should always be following your foreign policy.

P5 Countries:
