Descriptive Annex
1 INTRODUCTION

The Zebra Technologies MP70X1 & MP70X2 scanner scales (Figure 1) are a family of self-
indicating, weight only, single or dual-interval, non-automatic weighing instruments.

The instrument may be used for direct sales to the public.

2 DESCRIPTION

2.1 Construction

2.1.1 Main features

− Designed for flush-mounting in checkout surface, having frame extensions to

support the instrument in the checkout counter
− Two model sizes with dimensions as below:
Medium: 398 mm x 292 mm
Long: 506 mm x 292 mm
− Steel framework supporting one load cell, barcode scanner and electronics
− Stainless steel load receptor
− Single (MX-201) or dual (MX-202) pole-mounted display (Figure 2)
− Optional Produce Flip-Up Bar Platter to weigh oversize objects
− Optional Customer Side Scanner (CSS)

2.1.2 Devices

− Initial zero setting device (≤ 20% of Max)

− Semi-automatic zero setting device (≤ 4% of Max)
− Zero tracking device (≤ 4% of Max)
− Automatic zero setting device
− Zero indicator
− Gravity compensation

2.1.3 Load cell

The scale module, containing one digital load cell, mounting bracket and U-bar is a Flintec
20-MP7-M30-01 or 20-MP7-M30-03.

2.2 Operation

2.2.1 Switch-on

At switch-on, a display test is performed to ensure that the display has no defect.

2.2.2 Zero-tracking

Zero tracking operates provided that the instrument is within range of not more than 4% of its
capacity.

2/7
2.2.3 Semi-automatic zero setting

The zero button operates provided that the instrument is within range of not more than 4% of
its capacity.

2.2.4 Automatic zero setting

The instrument will automatically set zero when the equilibrium is stable and the indication
has remained stable below zero for at least 5 seconds.

2.2.5 Over-range and under-range

If the load is less than gross zero, then the display shows “_ _ _ _ _”.

The instrument may be set to display weight up to nine divisions above Max. At greater
loads the display shows “EEEEE”.

3 TECHNICAL DATA

3.1 Rated operating conditions

The instrument operates on a 12 V DC power supply, supplied via an external power supply
unit. The external power supply unit operates on a 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz input.

The temperature range for the instruments is 0 °C / +40 °C.

3.3 Software

The firmware identification shall be 1.04F. Any change in firmware will cause this number to
change. Any change to calibration data will increment the non-resettable “C” counter. Any
change to legally relevant parameters will increment the non-resettable “P” counter.

The firmware number, “C” counter and “P” counter, are displayed by ensuring the scale is at
stable zero then holding the scale zero button (>0<) for 3 seconds. Continue to hold to
alternate between identification codes including the firmware identification, "C" followed by
numerical values, and "P" followed by numerical values. Values are visible by integrated
display (Figure 3) and are simultaneously displayed on the remote display if present.

3.4 Documentation and drawings

The instrument is fully described in the technical file held at NMO.

4 PERIPHERAL DEVICES AND INTERFACES

4.1 Interfaces

The instrument may have the following interface types:

− RS-232
− IBM 485
− USB

4.2 Peripheral devices

The instrument may be connected to any peripheral device that has been issued with Parts
(Test) Certificate by a Notified Body responsible for Module B under Directive 2014/31/EU

3/7
and bears the CE marking of conformity to the relevant directives; or

A peripheral device without a Parts (Test) certificate may be connected under the following
conditions:
− it bears the CE marking for conformity to the EMC Directive;
− it is not capable of transmitting any data or instruction into the weighing
instrument, other than to release a printout, checking for correct data
transmission or validation;
− it prints weighing results and other data as received from the weighing
instrument without any modification or further processing; and
− it complies with the applicable requirements of EN45501, i.e. 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 and
4.7.
A printing device may print additional information such as date or number to identify the
printed weighing result(s) or sets of weighing results.

4.3 Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS)

The instruments may be connected to an Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) if the following
conditions are met:

− The EPOS have a Parts (Test) Certificate issued by a Notified Body appointed
to certify instruments according to paragraph 1 of Annex II of the Directive
2014/31/EU;
− If the EPOS have a preset tare function, they shall carry out this function
autonomously and this function shall be in conformity with EN45501;
− The connection shall be made in such a way that the weight indication, the
unit price and price-to-pay are positioned adjacent to each other.

5 APPROVAL CONDITIONS

This certificate is issued subject to the following conditions:

5.1 Inscriptions

5.1.1 The instrument shall bear the following inscriptions on or near the display:

− Max
− Min
− e=

5.1.2 The instrument shall bear the following inscriptions:

− CE marking
− Supplementary metrology marking
− Identification number of the notified body involved in the production control
phase
− Number of the EU-type examination certificate
− Manufacturer’s name, registered trade name or registered trade mark and
postal address
− Accuracy class
− Type, batch or serial number

4/7
and, when applicable:

− for instruments consisting of separate but associated units: identification mark

on each unit;
− scale interval if it is different from e, in the form d = S;
− maximum additive tare effect, in the form T = + S;
− maximum subtractive tare effect if it is different from Max, in the form T = – S;
− tare interval if it is different from d, in the form dT = S;
− maximum safe load if it is different from Max, in the form Lim S;
− the special temperature limits, in the form S oC/S oC;

The markings and inscriptions shall fulfil the requirements of Article 6, Article 16, Article 17
and Point 1 of Annex III of Directive 2014/31/EU.

5.2 The instrument is designed for permanent installation in checkout surface so

does not require a level indicator. The instrument should be made level at installation. The
medium size model may be fitted with adjustable feet in which case the instrument is levelled
and then fixed in place.

6 LOCATION OF SEALS AND VERIFICATION MARKS

6.1 The data plate (Figure 4) is located underneath the load receptor and is
secured, either by sealing or by being of a form such that it is destroyed when removed.

6.2 The load cell model number and serial number are stored in the scanner
secure memory during manufacturing. At power up, the scanner software requests the scale
model number and serial number from the Flintec Scale Module (Load Cell), and will fail to
boot-up if the incorrect load cell is identified.

6.3 The value of the counters described in section 3.3 must be written on a
tamper-evident label (Figure 5) on or near the rating plate.

7 ALTERNATIVES

7.1 Remote pole displays may be replaced by alternative ‘Primary Weight

Indication’ on an approved EPOS customer/operator display (conditions of 4.3 must be met).

7.2 The instrument may have an EAS Security Tag Deactivation antenna fitted
beneath the platter “Live” weighing surface.
