Objectives
To create awareness on the importance of conservation.
To express creativity in using reused/recycled materials to create a lantern.
To make a lantern using recycled materials.
The primary purpose is to inspire and encourage individuals, families, local government
units, and schools to perpetuate the creation of a parol which isa Christmas symbol of
family unity.
To unite everyone and cooperate to produce a craft that is worthy and for it to be
appreciated.
Description
Paróls are lanterns and traditionally made of bamboo, papél de japón (Japanese paper)
and illuminated with candle or kalburo (carbide). As times goes by, the lantern evolved
into a more intricate, lavish and brightly lit Christmas ornament. Aside from the
traditional design of parols, other materials are used such as capiz shells with elaborate
lights became popular too. Adding to the meaning of parol, the lantern also demonstrates
the craftsmanship of Filipinos.
We used new and recycled materials to make parol, like wrappers, soft drink straws,
recycled papers, and tie Parol represents the innovation, creativity, and it is the greatest
expression of Christmas spirit.
Procedure
Ready all the materials in one place
Fold the plastics straws in half and cut it using scissors
After you cut it in half, put a hole in it using a needle
Remove it, and put it in the wire to put it together
Twist it to make it circle
Cut the excess wire
Make another round of it until you already have enough to make a parol
Cut the carton in circle
Put it in the middle of the round straws
Using the string bind together two round straws with the small circle carton between
In an alternate manner
Tighten it to create a circle
Cut the sides, in a star design
Fix it to look good
Put a wrapper around the circle or any kind of recycled materials3
