Quiz 9

1. What was the speaker's project/idea?

The speaker’s idea is about how to be creative from being bored that we experience every
day. The project is titled, Bored and brilliant: The lost art of spacing out.

2. How did the speaker come up with the idea?

Many people are afraid of some co-dependence in their relationship with their cell phone
and are taking actions that lead to addiction, poor mental health, or poor performance.
Anyone looking at her cell phone is a power tool and very convenient, but dangerous if not
handled properly. People think they lost an hour if they didn't pay close attention to their
phone.

3. Was her project informative? List down all the information you learned from her TED talk.

The "Boed and Brilliant" project was informative with random guesses. Zomordi's ideas
dealt little with information by area of neuroscience, everyday life, boredom, functionality,
habits, creativity, and probability. These are randomly listed below:

• Standard mode is when you combine different ideas to solve some of the most
painful problems and do what is called an "autobiographical plan".
• The average person spends two years on Facebook.
• Multitasking does not mean doing four or five things at the same time, as it is a
way the brain does not work. Instead, it quickly moves from one to the next,
running out of neural resources in the process.
• The habit of using mobile phones can be a kind of co-dependency.

4. How frequent do you use your phone? Can you see yourself doing the speaker's challenge?

I use my phone almost the whole day because I need to be updated with the school
activities and I always spend my time in social media for entertainment when I’m bored. I
surely see myself doing the challenge.

5. What are the possible implications of multi-tasking? Do we finish more, or do we finish less
tasks than focusing on one (1) task at a time?

I think the consequences and importance of multitasking will vary depending on who does
it. It may work for some, but not all. Zomordi explained in a TED talk that people who lack
sleep tend to have less concentration. This variable is a variable that needs to be considered
in order to measure whether multitasking is effective. In addition, TED's lectures said that
multitasking doesn't really do much at the same time, but because it's a work of mind, it
quickly hooks into all tasks. I think with multi-tasking we can finish more task just with
proper management.

6. According to the search engineer at Google, why is technology built to trigger social media
users an itchy feeling if they are not with their phones?

Because technology or social media apps have been developed to get the attention of users.
People are like glued to their phones and gadgets these days because of different
entertainment can give to everyone. This is how technology affects our feelings when we
are not on our phones; it makes us feel humiliated and emotionally drained at first, and we
feel lonely. People believe that if they don't pay attention to their phone for an hour, they
will lose an hour or missed something.
