F. Star Identification
It is a requirement for every Navigating officer to check the compass error in every
Navigational watch.
During the day it is easy as the sun is visible most of the time.To Determine the compass
error in the Night with the Celestial objects, it is desirable that the officer of the watch be
able to identify at least 10 celestial objects without using star finder.
On any Thursday with a clear sky, AMET City College is prepared to assist you in
identifying the stars from the comfort of your home. Which means you can stand on your
terrace or in an open area, call us to assist you.
Stability
Onboard ships we use loading computers for all our stability / cargo operations.
The ship's offices might not have time to teach stability / cargo calculation using the books.
Hence the candidates find it difficult to use the numericals based on hydrostatic tables.
AMET City College tries to help the candidates who try to appear for their first competency
exams by giving 10 hours of classes.
D.CHARTWORK
We are aware that many ships in the world have switched over to ECDIS and only ‘GoHome’ paper charts
are available.
As recommended by IMO and DG Shipping requires Knowledge of the Chartwork by all Indian Seafarers.
As most of the seafarers are appearing for their first Competency Certificate are facing difficulty in passing
the Chartwork Exam.
We at AMET City College would like to prepare the candidates appearing for exams in any country.
We plan to conduct 10 classes of one hour each starting from the basics.
Topics for each session will be given in the first hour.
Cadets are failing in the Signals Exam, which could be easily avoided with practice.
As all of you are aware, passing in signals is a prerequisite to appear for Function 1 Orals.
We are prepared to give our equipment to any 2M Candidate (of any institute).
All that you have to do is to come and practise (in working hours).
B. CELESTIAL NAVIGATION
1. It is a very interesting Subject if the teacher and the student combination matches
well.
Due to various reasons, many students find it difficult to visualize 3D pictures and
find it difficult to pass the examination.
Almost all shipping operators through their quality manuals require ships officers to
take compass error every watch and obtain a celestial fix once in a month.
Though there are several means of obtaining compass error, determining with
celestial bodies is more often.
It is understood easily after actual sailing. But it is taught immediately after plus two
in the pre-sea training institutes.
AMET City College tries to help the candidates who try to appear for their first
competency exams by giving 15 hours of classes.
Open to all.
