1. Purpose:

QUESTIONS
Q1. (20 marks) Using Biot-Savart’s law, find the magnitude and the direction of the magnetic field B at the center
O of the arc in figure 1, given the arc radius R = 1 cm, the angle  = 3/4 [rad] and the current I = 100 [A].

Q2. (20 marks) The circuit in figure 2 has E = 12 V, R1 = R2 = R3 = 1 [k], L = 0.1 [H], the internal resistance
of the battery is neglected. The switch S has been closed for very long time and is suddenly open. Find and sketch
the current flowing through the inductor.

Q3. (20 marks) The magnitude of the electric field between the two circular parallel plates in figure 3 is E =
109(1 - e-10t) [V/m]. The plate has radius 0.1 [m].

a) Using Maxwell’s law, find the magnitude and the direction of the induced magnetic field between the plates.

b) Find the magnitude and the direction of the current flowing through the capacitor.

Q4. (20 marks) A conducting loop in the shape of a right angled isosceles triangle is in a time varying
magnetic field B = 10t [T] (figure 4). Given GH = 2 [m], the resistance of the loop R = 10 [], find

a) The magnitude and the direction of the current induced in the loop.
