Elements of a program design and the importance of each

Understanding a program design means breaking it down into basic elements. A logic

model is made up of five elements which include inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impact. A logic

model gives the basis for program evaluation and gives a picture of how the program is supposed

to work. It is used in the identification of elements in a program design and how they relate to

each other.

Inputs

Inputs include the resources needed to implement a project. Inputs include full-time

volunteer staff, funds, and other assets needed. Resources are used to assess development and

ensure continued growth in an organization (Hollebeek et al, 2017). Inputs provide a basis for the

implementation of other elements in the design. the inputs included in the case study was the

time spent helping the homeless population and the money invested to improve the living

conditions.

Output.

Outputs are used to refer to the work performed. It includes the products produced by a

project. Outputs in a logic model can be divided into three levels. These levels include if the

activities are carried out as planned, reaching the target groups and if the target groups accept

offers. Levels 1 are the offerings and level two is reached when the community accepts the

offerings. Level 3 reflects whether the offerings meet the needs of the homeless population. The

output is used to outline the relationship between outputs and the results. The output in the case

study includes workshops and the use of equipment (Evans et al, 2018).
3

Outcomes.

This is used to refer to the results at the level of target groups. Outcomes are used to

indicate the positive changes in the community and the objectives achieved (Greenfield, 2018). It

is divided into three levels comprising the development of new skills and the living conditions of

the homeless population.

Impact.

this is used to describe the desired changes at a societal level. They include changes in

economic conditions or social status. It is used to refer to a part of the society or population. In

the case study, the impact of the services on the homeless population can e analyzed. The best

methods to improve living conditions can be determined.

How can the logic model simplify the evaluation process?

A logic model represents the shared relationship between the components in an

evaluation process. A logic model simplifies the evaluation process by indicating how results

impact the program (Seidl,.et al, 2020). It depicts common characteristics between activities and

the desired effects. A logic model is very useful when organizing and planning the organization's

activities. It is an important tool used when making outcome-based evaluations (Hollebeek et al,

2017). During the evaluation process, the logic model creates a common understanding of the

responsibilities needed to make it work.

How the logic model can be applied to the case study

The case study for the homeless population and human services available in the

community can be demonstrated using a logic model. The logic model has been applied in the

case to help create an understanding of the key relationships between the decisions made and the

resources used. A logic model provides a basis for analyzing the community and understanding

the results. The logic model can be applied to the case study to determine the inputs and impact

of the case study on the community. It is possible to analyze the outcomes and use the

information to make improvements on the service provision and devise ways to help the

homeless population. Coming up with ways to help the homeless can be hard hence the model is

useful in devising these methods.
