Developed Routine Activities Theory

(Cohen & M, 1979)

Mission: To Reduce Overcrowding in Prison/Jails

Vision: Cleanliness in prisons/jails
Objectives: To give Proper prison for prisoners

According to this theory routine activities may be any number of activities, including
work, leisure, and social interaction. These activities can occur at home or away from
home. When these routine activities are performed within or near the home, lower risks
of crime are expected because they enhanceguardianship capabilities. That is, since
higher levels of guardianship increase the likelihoodthat offenders will be seen, the
risk for criminal victimization isreduced. Routine activities attempted to explain
higher crime rates after World War II by stating that more people were in the
workplace leaving morehomes unattended for long periods of time.Of the three main
factors, most of the emphasis is placed on suitabletargets, with capable guardians
getting some focus and motivatedoffenders almost none(Cohen & M, 1979).

According to my research there are some places that because of poverty they tend to
commit crime, example to this is when in a British colonies in South and South East
Asia Because of poverty it had lead to a large increase in property crimes. (such as
robbery, petty theft, and cattle raiding), but not to an increase in interpersonal violent
crimes (such as murder, homicides, and assault). In line with a growing body of
literature on the climate-economy nexus, this study offers evidence that loss of
agricultural income is one of the main causal channels leading to property crime.
Additional historical information on food shortages, poverty, and crime is used to
explore the connection in greater detail.

The first thing that comes in my mind is the lack of parental supervisions or absence
of capable guardian. because a person will commit a crime by how a person raised,
and according to (Cohen & M, 1979) The absence of a capable guardian is the main
reason why some child & teenagers are committing a crime, and the first thing that
can reduce the crimes in a community is by implementing parental supervisions. it
reduce committed crimes and also it can reduce the excessiveness of the persons who
are had been imprison on jails or to reduce overcrowding in jails.
Crime can also be decreased through Increasing the aggresiveness of police patrolling,
increased surveillance of area by residents and target hardening are methods of
increasing capable guardianship.
As criminologists Cohen and Felson create this theory that is more on about the
absence of a capable guardian, I’d like to develop it by Taking action against poverty,
According to Kostadis J. Papaioannou “Hunger makes a thief of any man” and
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said “when people are mired in a
sense of hopelessness, they tend to see no way out of their circumstances. Desperate
people do desperate things.”

“I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they
will be moved to act.”  - Bill Gates, business magnate and philanthropist

We have to take an action, we have to stop poverty.
How to can we Stop Poverty?
Create Awareness
Social media has become an integral part of daily life, and now is the time to use it as
a voice of social good. Sharing links on Facebook, Twitter and other platforms will
allow people to learn more about global poverty and will increase the general
consciousness of the issue.
Take Action on Your Own
There are a few simple ways we can help as individuals, such as funding a poor
child’s education or by sponsoring a poor family and influencing others to do so.
Raising money and donating it to a nonprofit can help as well.

Donate
Donations can help in so many ways. They do not always have to take the form of
money. This can include donating books to a poor child or buying groceries for a poor
family for a week to help fight hunger (Links to an external site.). Donating old
clothes, furniture and toiletries can also help improve the well-being of the poor.

Educate Everyone
Education helps increase individual earnings for every member of a family. UNESCO
points out that basic reading skills can lift 171 million people (Links to an external
site.) out of extreme poverty, ultimately reducing the world’s total poverty by 12
percent. UNESCO also mentions there are currently about one billion illiterate adults
in the world.
