SECTION 16780

INTEGRATED HOTEL
TELEVISION, RADIO AND SATELLITE RECEPTION SYSTEM

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and special


Conditions (General requirements), apply to work of this section.

B. Basic electrical materials and methods, section 16050 applies to work of this section.

1.2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A. Work includes providing all materials, equipment, accessories, services and tests
necessary to complete and make ready for operation,Integrated Hotel Television,
Radio and Satellite Reception System in accordance with Drawings and
Specifications.

B. The system shall consists of a complete wiring installation including spliters, coaxial.
Cable, tap off, outlets for the entire Hotel T.V system and all necessary accessories
required for complete installation (Aerial, satellite dishes are existing on south tower).

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer's Qualifications: Firms regularly engaged in the manufacture of


television and radio system of types, and capacities required, whose products have
been in satisfactory use in similar service in Hotel in Egypt for not less than 5 years.
Provide television and radio systems produced by a manufacturer listed as an
Acceptable Manufacturer in this section.

B. Standards Compliance: Comply with requirements of applicable local codes,


DIN/VDE, IEC.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's data and installation instructions for Integrated
Hotel television and radio system.

B. Shop Drawings: Submit dimensional layout on architectural background drawings.

C. Riser diagram : submit riser diagram for the building Television, Radio and Satellite
Reception System including Integrated Hotel system indicating type of different
components in the system and also the calculations of the signal levels at each point
of television and radio outlets.

1.5 EQUIPMENT WARRANTY

A. Guarantee equipment furnished under these specifications against defective parts and
workmanship under terms of the manufacturer's and dealer's standard warranties for a
period of not less than two years from date of initial start-up and Engineer acceptance
of the system and include labor and travel time for necessary repairs at the job site.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 INTRODUCTION

A. The Contractor shall provide, install, test examin the existing installations in Nile City
Towers to make any necessary modifications to meet the operator requirements and
commission, a complete building MATV and Integrated Hotel Television, Radio and
Satellite System required for the following.

i. Three local channels ( VHF / UHF ).


ii. AM/FM radio cahnnels.
iii. Digital satellite channels for at least 30 channels (refer to operator requitements).
iv. Three Music Channels from Hotel sound system.
v. Four Video Channels (Pay TV channels).
vi. Hotel Info.Channel with text PC edit ( including graphics)

B. The Contractor shall show evidence of having successfully completed at least three
similar projects of a comparable quality and magnitude.

C. The contractor shall show evidence that he maintains a fully equipped service
organization capable of furnishing adequate maintenance of the installed system.

D. The system in its entirety shall be warranted by the contractor for a period of two
years from date of acceptance to meet all performance requirements outlined herein.

E. After the system is installed the contractor shall furnish a complete set of operating
instructions, technical information and system drawings necessary for the proper
operation and maintenance of the system.

The drawings shall include signal levels throughout the system as they were on the
acceptance date of the system.

F. The contractor shall provide and install, all the required cable and wiring for the
systems specified. He shall pull cable into conduit and boxes, install all system
equipment and make all necessary connections. He shall also make necessary tests
and adjustments and put the entire systems in satisfactory operation.

G. The contractor shall investigate the electrical power standards of the local area and
the specific premises in which the equipment is to be installed. All equipment shall
be compatible with the local power supply, voltage and frequency.

H. All major items of equipment shall be the product of one manufacturer, where
practicable, to ensure a uniform quality and compatible styling and appearance.

I. The system headend shall be designed to permit future installation of a satellite dish
connected to the receivers.

J. Unless otherwise indicated, all distribution shall be "on-channel", that is signals shall
be distributed on the same channels they are received on.
In the event direct off-the-incoming signal is problem, the contractor shall use
suitable means to overcome it, such as higher outlet signals or off-channels
conversions.

K. The system shall be rated and capable of continuous twenty-four (24) hour operation.

2.2 STANDARDS, REGULATIONS AND WORKMANSHIP

A. The Integrated Hotel Television, Radio and Satellite Reception System installed shall
comply with all applicable, International standards and code of practice and Egyptian
Standards.

B. It is the contractor's responsibility to ensure compatibility of systems with domestic


television and radio equipment available in Egypt.

C. The Television, Radio and Satellite Reception System shall be designed and installed
by competent personnel specializing in this type of work. Installation shall be carried
out to the highest standards of workmanship.

2.3 SYSTEM CRITERIA

A. The contractor shall be supply the entire hotel MATV system plus Integrated Hotel
TV. system.

B. The Hotel system shall be based on interactive communication between the


guest and the central computer system.

C. By entering the room number the guest may access pay television channels, read his
messages, requested a wake up call, check his bill, order room service and complete
express check out. All of these functions may be carried out in a matter of moments.

D. The system shall allow the following :

- Automatic welcome page with language preselection at check - in.

- Automatic basic setting (e.g volume and contrast) of TV sets at check in.

- High resolution, user friendly operator interface via configuration wizard.

- Hotel information pages with individually arranged text.

- Storing additional video channels in the aerial system, e.g. for transmitting
seminar films and conferences to authorized rooms (group check – in and rights
ID).

- News transmissions to individual rooms, groups or to all guests with an


acknowledgement to reception (message printer).

- Room service with various facilities including food, drink and service menus,
automatic for-warding to several end stations (reception, kitchen, restaurant,….).

- Maid service with forwarding f faults in room furnishings to the technical


primary control center and room release to the front office after cleaning
completion.

- Wake-up call function with acknowledgment.

- Bill view with express check-out.

- Minibar bill from chamber maids.

E. The system shall allow the hotelier to transmit messages via TV screen even
when the TV is switched off or on program.

F. In addion, the system shall give detailed guest information ( local and worled

time, wake up time, messages received) and provide a statistical analysis of the
services used

G. The system provides remote control facilities for channel selection, volume,
mains On/Off, brightness and colour control for audio and vidio programs

H. The network cabling is formed of a single coaxial cable for both audio and
video programs.

I. The contractor shall provide and install, all the required audio and video TV.
cable and system in satisfactory operation.

J. Wiring shall be carried out using the appropriate size of super low loss coaxial cable.
Coaxial cables shall be installed strictly in accordance with the cable manufacturers
recommendations.

K. The contractor shall install combined Television, Radio and Satellite Reception
System outlets in the hotel rooms as indicated on the drawings.

L. Subjective evaluation of the picture quality on a standard television receiver


connected to any outlet in the system shall be utilized. No visible components of
cross channels intermodulation, ghosting, or beat interference shall appear when the
receiver is tuned to each and every distributed signal.

M. Objective proof of the capability of the system to meet the performance specifications
in this section will be required of the contractor during the acceptance tests. The
contractor shall furnish all test equipment for these tests.

2.4. DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

A. RF Amplifiers

1. Distribution system amplifiers shall be broadband type to cover the range of


VHF and UHF frequencies and with return capabilities.

2. The amplifier(s) shall be so rated and operated that the sync. compression
at any outlet is no more than 0.5 dB.

3. The amplifier(s) shall have the appropriate power level capability and
flatness of response that will enable the total system performance
specifications to be met.

B. Spiltters and Tap off units

1. All line splitters and directional couplers shall be of the passive type,
incorporating 75 Ohm hybrid design and having transmission range 5-862
MHz.

2. Tap-off units shall have 75 Ohm back matched units. Isolation and insertion
loss shall be chosen for each location to enable the total system performance
specification to be met.

3. Tap-off isolation network shall be directional coupler hybrid design.


The contractor shall adjust the headend to provide frequency tilt to
compensate for the frequency discriminative characteristics of the system
cable.

4. All aerial sockets must be return – capable via the 10-20 MHz TV connection.

5. The return channel volume level (16 MHz) should not exceed a difference of
15 db at the input/output of main modem.

6. The cable network in the hotel should be completed for a frequency range of
up 862 MHz.

The complete aerial system must be 100% shielded and RF radiation proof.
An aerial socket, which should be attached directly at the location of the
terminal station, is required for the control of the programmes and radio
programme injection.

C. Technical Data of Forward and Return Channel

Forward channel : 74 MHZ + 125 kHz FSK modulation


(Frequency shift keying)
Output from terminal station approx. 90 db
Volume level on TV set: > 55 db (5 db under U real)

Return channel : 16 MHZ + 125 kHz FSK modulation


Output from TV set: 90 db
Termission rate approx. 125 KBaud.

D. Riser and Horizontal coaxial cables

1. The system coaxial cable shall be 75 Ohm impedance with an attenuation of


12 dB/100 meters ( at 800 MHz ). It shall be sweep tested by the
manufacturer and certification shall be available on request.

2. Acceptable Cable constructions are as follows :

- Center conductor : Solid copper or copper clad.

- Dielectric insulation : Solid of foam polyethylene.

- Shield : 100% coverage with aluminized


mylar or polyester foil plus copper
or aluminum wire braid.
(wire braid only shield will not be
acceptable).

- Jacket : Polyvinyl chloride.

3. For horizontal coaxial cables, the attenuation shall be 17db/100m (at 800
MHz). These cables shall be used to connect between the TV outlets and the
main splitter/tap off of the floor/zone.

E. Internet Connection

1. An internet connection is used for the transmission of account data and for
maintenance purposes. Therefore an ISDN line (should be ordered at the local
telecom organization) must exist. Alternative internet access could also be
used depending on the country conditions.

2.5 COMPUTERS AND HARDWARE

A. The equipment basically consists of main PC-server, and head-end cable modem. The
main PC-server shall be installed with the basic control software, complete with
printer in control room.

B. The software of the system shall be capable to serve up to 1400 TV outlets with the
capability of future expansion.

C. The system shall be interfaced with PMS so that all activities (billing, wake up,
message, etc.) take place automatically.

D. The system shall have a response time less than 3 seconds in worst case of
interactive operation.

E. The server computer shall have the following :

- Data as minimum Pentium II 450 MHz.


- 256 Mbyte RAM
- 8 Gb hard disk
- Supper VGA colour screen (17”) and adapter
- 1 Flobby drive 3.5” and 1 CD-ROM
- Mouse
- Network card for PMS connection
- OS: windows NT 4.0 WS

F. Headend cable modem card shall be placed inside the client manager PC to handle all
data interchange between the server and the room terminals.
The cable modem shall be functioning with 7.5 Mbps full duplex communication.
This is done by two level ASK modulation.

G. The printer shall be lazer printer STAR or IBM

H. One colour graphic scanner

2.6 SYSTEM SOFTWARE FEATURES

A. HOTEL Info-Channel :

Such special T.V channel offers non-stop information for all guests. This is done in
form of an automatically. Displayed sequence of text and graphic displays or by
means of a non-stop video.

B. Video Checkouts :

This service allows the guest to check his bill in advance by viewing it on his T.V
screen. It also speed up the check-out process at the counter.

C. General Programming :

The facility of programming and alternation of the T.V’s standard settings (maximum
volume, channel selection, etc.) from a central point without the need to visit the
rooms. In addition the system will control picture quality by channel and by
television.

D. Hotel Pay T.V :

A guest may select and view specific programs on special channels, on a chargeable
basis, such as video films, satellite channels, etc.
The Hotel may offer as free viewing period after which the guest must confirm his
desire to continue viewing by entering his room number using the remote control
handset. Charging is automatic after confirmation. Reception may on demand, block
any or all pay channels to any or all televisions.
Number of channels : 4 channels

E. Wake Up:

A wake up call may be programmed either by the guest or by reception. The sound
level is gradually increased and the wake up call. The system shall advise reception if
no confirmation is made within five minutes. A summary of wake up service activity,
by room is available to reception.

F. Video Message Service:

All guest messages may be directed to specific rooms where they are stored for
viewing. The system advises the guest immediately that there is a message and by
entering his room number it may be viewed.
If the guest is not in his room when a message is sent, the screen display informs him,
on his return, that there is a message waiting. The system enables reception to know
whether or not the guest has received and read his message.

G. Room Status:

By using remote control handset room staff may inform reception of the room status.
In this way they may report, for example, minibar usage and reception staff may pass
messages to the room staff.

H. Welcome Message:

As soon as guest checks in a personalized welcome message is immediately displayed


on the T.V in this room.

I. Room Service Allow The Guest To Order Meals And Drinks Etc :

All menus are displayed in the guests preferred language. Menus are changed
automatically depending on the time of day thus ensuring that the guest is only able to
choose from menus available at the time of day thus

All orders are immediately printed in the room service and in the kitchen. A copy of
the order printed for confirmation by the guest.
The remote control handset shall give the guest easy access to all relevant hotel
information via the T.V screen in the guests preferred language. In addition the guest

by the hotel.

A single push button to select any T.V channel or for interactive information services
shall be valid.

In the event of an alarm the hotel may transmit an emergency message via the TV
screen and loudspeaker. This transmission may be distributed to all rooms or else to
groups or rooms in phases.

The nearest emergency exit shall be indicated graphically on the screen.

K. Information Channel Specifications :

1. The information channel package is a high quality graphics system


microprocessor based :

It shall be capable of animation and photographic quality images, and so is


suitable for revenue-generating purposes such as advertising. The system
shall be easy to use, and can be set up so that text size, colour, etc. is pre-
stored, hotel staff can then make changes to pages by simply typing in the
new text.

2. The information channel shall be distributed through MATV system to guest


room TV's :

Pages displayed might include :

- TV station listing.
- Hotel information (restaurant, bars, etc.).
- Non-competing commercial advertising (jewellers, clothes
shops, car rental, etc.).
- Local tourist attractions.
- Promotion of other hotels in the chain.

L. TV maintenance : The system shall be able to give a warning signal if a room terminal
is disconnected from the MATV or the mains power. In the same way a massage
alerts the hotel if the battery in the remote control or IR keyboard needs to be
changed.

M. Data log : All actions carried out through the system are logged in the server and this
log can be retrieved at any time. The system can generate reports and statistics for
various different services or a selection of services.

N. Housekeeping : This features enables the maids to access a special menu for
employees where they can report the status of the different rooms as well as look for
vacant rooms waiting to be cleaned.

O. Technical maintenance : A fault report can be sent to the maintenance department (it
can appear on a Pinter or a work station). Technicians can update the status of each
fault “in real time”, when fixing it in the guest room.

P. Minibar : The system shall be able to give the hotel employees report about the
consumption of the minibar directly through the room terminal. The system shall take
care to automatically bill the guest as well as to generate a stock/consumption report.
A warning level for low stock can also be input to the system to generate an alarm.

Q. Hotel Info. : This is the “Hotel’s web site and portal” . An unlimited amount of pages
per language are available for the hotel information service (Bars, Clubs, etc.). Pages
are build like a web-site , containing easy links or automated procedures (java-
script), in the form of images , sounds, animation, scrollable pages, frames, etc… The
guest can view the chosen pages by selecting them with the remote control. Intrnet

links can be embedded in the pages allowing the hotel to mix pages hosted on the
main server with external web sites.

R. pages by selecting them with the remote control . internet links can be embedded in
the pages allowing the hotel to mixpages hosted on the main server with external web
sites.

S. Roll text : An automated sequence of pages can be shown on terminals located in the
public areas for promotion purposes.

T. Program select : This is a list of the available television channels on the hotel’s
network by selecting the channel with the remote control the guest can have access to
additional information ( such as the channel web site and its programming ) which can
be displayed , off the internet , while the guests watch the television.

U. Internet browsing : This feature shall allow any guest to surf the world wide web from
his/her room. There shall be no limitation on the number of simultaneous users allow
us to charge the guest a fixed amount of money for any number of opening until the
next check out time. This the same business model used in pay TV service. Some of
the typical browsing patterns are accessing e-mail, getting news and information, e-
commerce, update travel Schedules, gaining local information.

V. PMS link : The system must be interfaced with the hotel’s PMS system via a RS232
or Ethernet LAN connection. This enables automatic billing or services and data
interchange for specific features (view bill, messages, etc.)

W. Pay T.V : This feature shall allow number of channels can be used to broadcast the
hotel pay T.V the main system takes care of charging the guests and posting the
information to the PMS.

2.7 COLOUR TELEVISION SETS

A. The television set shall be hotel set 25 & 29" inch PAL/SECAM/NTSC complete with
remote control unit (wireless), infrared keyboard and joy stick for games playing.

B. The television set shall have the following features :

- Electronically lockable station presets.


- Tamper protection for the TV channel tuning and volume range limitations
- Built in digital clock with alarm function and world time display capability.
- Pre-adjusted maximum sound volume
- Screen – blanking during reception of radio programs.
- Quick programming and reprogromming via headend server.
- Special hotel remote control wireless.
- Remote control hand unit and IR keyboard battery reporting on the headend
server.
- Audio amplifier 2 x 10 W (stereo).
- Automatic shut-off attend of broadcasting.
- Screen switch off during reception of audio programs.
- Prepared for hotel video communication system.

C. Special user – friendly hotel infrared remote control with brief multingual operating
in structure and direct access to:-

- TV and Pay – TV programme functions.


- Radio programmes.
- Room service menu.

D. Mains cable, aerial connection cable must be included.

E. Complete installation incl. delivery, set – up and programming of units.

F. Large – screen TV set for conference rooms / hotel foyer 34" inch.

- Stereo unit, 100 Hz technology, SVHS compatible, VGA connection.

2.8 BATH ROOM LOUDSPEAKER & VOLUME CONTROL

A. In all bath of guestrooms & suites, a splash proof ceiling loudspeaker and volume
Control shall be installed and connected to the audio output of the T.V set.

B. Provide audio outlet beside each T.V outlet to be used to connect the audio
output of the T.V set ( via shielded cord ) to the bath room loudspeaker and
volume control.

C. The minimum specification of the ceiling loudspeaker in guestroom bath shall be


as follows:

- Power rating; 15 watt, 8 ohm .


- Loudspeaker sensitivity : 87dB/1w /1m
- Frequency response: 80 Hz-16000Hz± 3 dB.
- The loudspeaker shall be ceiling mounted, splash proof type.

D. Provide volume control with stainless steel cover,15 watt rating.

2.9 INTERFACE WITH FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

A. The SMATV system shall be interfaced with the fire alarm system.

B. In case of receiving alarm control from the fire alarm system, an emergency video
message (escape staircase and fire emargency text) shall be viewed on all guest TV
sets).

2.10 PMS interface

A. An interface is required for the respective hotel front office PMS systems (e.g.
HOGATEX, FIDELIO etc.) for the connection to the hotel computer. A shielded
cable is to be used for the connection to PMS.

B. PMS protocol must be provided.

2.11 VIDEO TAPE MACHINES

These shall be cassette machines heavy duty, forming part of the pay TV equipment (VHS
multi-standard).

2.12 GRAPHIC COLOUR SCANNER

A graphic colour scanner shall be included in the system to be used in graphics preparation.

The system shall have the following features :

- High quality multi colour graphics. Including animation and photo-quality images.
- At least 15 standard scaleable typefaces.
- At least 50 standard backgrounds. including pictures produced specially for the hotel
(logo, corporate colours, etc.).
- Large selection of page-to-page transitions.
- User friendly mouse-driven operation with basic, intermediate and advanced user
levels.
- Page layout and text attributes (size, colour) can be prestored.
- Hard disk storage capacity for several hundred pages.
- Scheduling software, controlling sequence according to time/day/date.

2.13 CENTRAL COMMUNICATION CENTRE

A. Centre unit in lockable 19" rack.


B. Main computer with network card, RF modem, linux operating system.
C. PC interfaces for periphery printer, terminals.
D. Interface for front / back office possible (e.g. Hogatex, Fidelio, etc.).
E. Pay TV channels with automatic video control.
F. Broadcasting programmes (radio programmes) according to aeral network reception.
G. Radio channels (international programmes).
H. Internet connection for hotline and updates with ISDN dial-in.
I. Fax printer for printing out system data.
J. Email facility in order to create and retrieve emails.

2.14 TESTS ON SITE

A. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to provide test equipment so that tests
can be carried on site and in the presence of the consultant in order to ascertain that
the installation meets all the specified performance criteria.

B. The following tests shall be carried out using a pattern generator with facilities for all
aspects of video and audio performance including:

i- Color Performance.
ii- Ghosting.
iii- Resolution.
iv- Synchronization performance, and any other measurements that the Engineer t
may which to perform.
v- System Performance
vi- Syatem Recording

The generator shall provide crystal controlled carries at all channel frequencies in
bands I and III modulated with 1000 Hz. audio and appropriate video signal. Output
shall be variable between at least + 20 dB and 100 dB. The raw video and audio
signals shall also be available.

2.15 RECOMMENDED MANUFACTURER

Refer to the attached list of recommended manufactures.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSPECTION

A. Examine areas and conditions under which hotel television and radio systems are to
be installed and notify in writing of conditions detrimental to proper completion of
the work. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been
corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Install Hotel Television and radio system equipments, including associated control
devices as indicated, in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions,
requirements of applicable standards, and in accordance with recognized code of
practices to ensure that installation complies with requirements and serves intended
function.

B. Coordinate with other work as necessary to interface installation of Hotel television


and radio systems work with other works.

C. Tighten connectors and terminals, including screws and bolts, in accordance with
equipment manufacturer's published torque tightening values for equipment
connectors. Where manufacturer's torquing requirements are not indicated, tighten
connectors and terminals to comply with tightening torques specified in UL Standards
486A and B.

D. Anchor mounting hardware firmly to walls, floors, or ceilings, to ensure enclosures


are permanently and mechanically secured. Provide all hardware and accessories for
proper mounting.

E. Provide equipment earthing connections for Hotel television and radio systems units
as required.

3.3 PERSONNEL TRAINING

A. Building Operating Personnel Training: Train Owner's building personnel in


procedures for starting up, testing and operating Hotel television and radio system
submit three operator's manual providing installation and operating instructions for
the Hotel television and radio system.
