Museum/Exhibition Hall Lighting Design (Natural & Artificial Lighting)

The aim of this project is to allow you to get familiar with Day Light and the different types of artificial lighting,
fixture types, provision and installation of different spaces of various characteristics. In order to do so, you are
given a randomly selected museum floor plan below which you are going to be doing the overall lighting design
with in the period of one week.

Phase of the project

Research on related case studies


Space character study (each) of the given floorplan.
Identifying all the necessary types of fixtures that are suitable for each space.
Preparing a lighting diagram for each space.
Preparing installation drawing.
Preparing a 3Dinterior rendering to show the light effect on each space.
 Convert the given floor plan into 3D by extruding the wall up to 6m and providing a
celling of your own design that fits the spaces.

Presentation panel content

Lighting diagram supported with a written description stating the type of layer and answering the question
‘why?’ for each space.
Fixture schedule of each space with detail of the fixture.
Installation drawing showing all the necessary.
3D rendering ofeach space showing the expected lighting effect.

Presentation panel format

Presentation panels should be of A1 (841*594mm) size and have a landscape orientation.


Panels should be not more than 1 in number.
Top and bottom Tittle box (if any) should not be more than 8% of panels’ area.
Panel content should be more of graphical presentation and less written description.
Text size should be readable and of same/mono font style.

 Controllable aspects of light
 Different layers of lighting design
 Factors that shape the humans understanding towards light and etc.
Quality of work and creativity.
Group members’ participation.
Fulfilment of requirements.
