1. How did the caste system affect the following?

a. Economy of India

The economy of India while caste system exists has been mostly limited only to
Bhramin. India’s economy has been successful and known worldwide by their progressive
Information Technology skills. Although, big companies outsources India for their IT
solutions, 70% of its population are still stuck at unemployment and unskilled, low-paying
jobs. Those included in 70% is why India’s economy, no matter how it dominates IT, still
doesn’t grow because many people are affected by the caste system which limits them only to
poverty that greatly affects the progression of economic growth.

b. Business practices of India

Since India’s mostly focuses on the IT Industry, degree holder are the one’s
focused on hiring. With the caste system, those who are in the highest to middle caste are the
only ones getting the job in the IT industry because business practices in them requires
educated people. Although organizations like Infosys now helps the lower class of the caste
systems, it still doesn’t guarantee an employment. In this situation, business practices are quite
unethical because even if the lower class are degree holder and are engineer, the still look on
which part of the caste system those people are in.

c. Political system of India

Through the years of caste system, India’s political system has been open about
the problems that the lower class faces. Although part of the politics are also higher class, they
are being proactive about how they want to cancel the discrimination happening in India this
20th century. But no matter how it has been raised and prevented, higher class in the caste
system still manages to dominate politics’ rules even though what they’re doing is illegal.

2. What programs can you think of that may help the Dalits to get a job?
I cannot think much of programs to help Dalits but to improve Infosys’ way of helping
them. It has been a great help even though it has been a slow start for them. But in my opinion,
Education is the key success of overcoming the problematic caste system because if the Dalits
are way too good on doing things than the higher people, they will have no choice but to
consider Dalists in hiring.
