Identify 10 issues in the Philippines.

What science and Technology - related policies

could be develop and implemented to solve these issues?

Answer : Some of the issues that we are facing are:

1.Traffic

Traffic and transportation should have been better in the country if only railways and
highways are created all accross the country. If the railways have been planned and
constructed early in the Philippines, several jobs should have been accessible to people
from places that are far from Manila.
In Metro Manila, the obvious answer is increased and BETTER public transport
(specifically MRT/ LRT/ subway). All big cities in the world have traffic problems and
most cities have adjusted having robust public transportation services. Think NY and
their subway. Japan and their trains. London and the Underground. Hong Kong and
Singapore and their light rails. Why drive when I can take a train and get there faster? If
more people take trains, less people will drive, ergo less cars on the road.
Decongesting Metro Manila also means decentralizing the Philippines. If businesses
were allowed to place headquarters outside MM, then it would not be as congested. By
why would companies risk going out of Manila when most services and infrastuctures
and security are in MM? Hence, one needs to develop the provinces. More roads. More
airports. More internet cables, what not. Its a lot of work, a lot of money, and a lot of red
tape to go through, especially if you are a poor region relying heavily on central funding.
Personally, I think a decentralized government might help — a move to a Federal
government where regions can have control of how they want to develop (considering
they know best what their strenghts and weakness are).

2. Health-care

Health care programs are taken for granted in the Philippines. Many Filipinos would
chose to self medicate rather than go to professionals due to high fees imposed upon
check up. If only the government are able to establish a health care system free and
accessible to the public, a lot of Filipinos should have had a higher trust in the service of
the government
fix corruption I think there are more issues than I can remember at the moment, but
pretty much most of our problems can be alleviated by getting rid of the corruption.
3. Internet

A strong internet provider should be available in the country specially now that data is
being the backbone of everything. Fast Data transfers across platforms would make
communication faster thus collaboration between concerned parties would be easier.

5. Overpopulation

We have too many people. Our problems of poverty, dense metropolitan areas,
and a poor health care system, can be alleviated by addressing this issue.

Education. As cliché as that sounds, education is the most viable long term solution for
this. Education, especially in females, leads to lower fertility and lower population
growth. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though, because how to you educate people who
already can’t afford an education? So, while we wait until the Philippines becomes rich
enough to give out free *good college educations to everyone, they can start a Family
Planning program that will temporarily decrease fertility rates in the meantime.

6. Poverty

We have a population of 106 million yet only about 30% can pay taxes,
with majority living under the poverty line.

Poverty is the end result of most of the issues. Decreasing corruption will

definitely help as government services will be better able to cater to the
poor. Plus, more money will be going directly to government services that
help the poor instead of lining politician’s pockets. With better government
services, education included, jobs will open creating more businesses
which opens more jobs and so forth. Increased jobs and businesses
increases taxes which can fund government programs to decrease poverty.

7.Climate Change

The above are just some of the many problems the country is currently facing, I am not
sure how us Filipinoes are going to make it to the future knowing that the focus of the
government is just politics and not the welfare of the public.May God be with us and
strengthen the country. May everyone think for the better of many and not for an
individual.
8.Pollution.
The Philippines is polluted because the people do not care. As a contrast look at Japan,
which is an island nation with few resources. They keep their country clean as a part of
their culture. Trash is sorted out in multiple recycling bins depending on type. What is
not recycled is disposed of properly. The final waste is incinerated or used to fill in the
ocean and create more land. In the Philippines trash is thrown on the ground. Where is
ultimately washes into the ocean.
No new technology is needed to tackle this problem. It needs to be a nationwide culture
shift to care about keeping the Philippines clean.

9.Flood
control which had been implemented only in some parts of the Philippines. But one
cause of flood is a non-working drainage system due to garbage’s being thrown and
dumped. It’s either garbage disposal management or human-eating manhole. I love the
latter.

10. Natural Disaster

It is necessary to develop an effective disaster response system. Because our
archipelago is frequently hit by earthquakes, storms, tidal surges, volcanic eruptions,
and other natural disasters, this is critical if the Philippines wants to achieve zero
casualties during disasters. Disaster vehicles with high mobility, such as amphibious
vehicles and ambulances, should be stationed throughout the country.
2. What can say about the implementation of some science and technology policies and
projects in the country? Base on the topic discuss on the module.
Answer :
The science and technology policies and projects in the country are mainly for the
benefit of the people. The projects are helpful in some ways that could lessen the
adversity of the nation.
