 The Golden Globes 2022 award ceremony
took place on 9 Jan 2022.
 The Power Of The Dog won Best Film
(Drama).
 Jane Campion won the Best Director for 'The
Power Of The Dog'.
 Will Smith won the Best Film Actor (Drama)
for 'King Richard'.
 Nicole Kidman won her 5th Golden Globe for
Best Film Actress (Drama) for 'Being The
Ricardos'.
 Best Foreign Language Film was won by
Drive My Car (Japan).
O Yeong-su wins S.Korea's first Golden Globe award
 South Korean actor O Yeong-su won the
country's first Golden Globe award on 9 Jan
2022 for his role in Netflix series "Squid
Game".
 He won best supporting actor in television for
his portrayal of Oh II-nam, also known as The
Host or Player 001, becoming the first South
Korean ever to snatch a Golden Globe.
 He is regarded as one of the greatest stage
actors in South Korea.
Sri Lanka launches luxury train service with India's
assistance
 Sri Lanka has launched a luxury train service
connecting Jaffna district to the capital city,
Colombo, with the help of a Line of Credit
offered by India.
 The intercity rail service with all facilities was
launched on 9 Jan 2022, covering a distance
of approximately 386 kms.
 India had provided AC Diesel Multiple Units
(AC DMUs) under the loan facility.
New Covid variant called 'Deltacron' detected in
Cyprus

 Scientists in Cyprus have detected a new
variant of coronavirus dubbed as 'Deltacron'-
combining both the Delta and Omicron
variants.
 As per reports, 25 cases have been detected
so far.
 Out of 25, 11 patients were hospitalized while
the remaining were from the general public.
 The frequency of the mutation among
hospitalized patients was higher.
Real GDP to grow at around 9.5% in FY22: SBI
Ecowrap
 India's real GDP is expected to grow at
around 9.5 percent in 2021-22 on a year-on-
year (YoY), according to an SBI Ecowrap
report released on 8 Jan'22.
 India's economy is expected to clock a growth
of 9.2 percent in terms of real GDP for FY22.
 The report comes a day after the National
Statistical Office released the First Advance
Estimates of National Income for the financial
year 2021-22.
Government extends Navrang Saini’s term as
interim chief of IBBI
 The Centre has extended the additional
charge of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of
India (IBBI) Wholetime Member Navrang
Saini as Chairperson till March 5, 2022.
 The Centre had in October 2021 assigned the
additional charge to Navrang Saini for a
period of three months (till January 13, 2022).
 IBBI is the regulator for overseeing insolvency
proceedings and entities.
RBL Bank collaborates with Google
 RBL Bank has collaborated with Google to
strengthen its customer experience strategy
and expand value proposition in order to
 serve its rapidly growing customer base
through its digital platform, Abacus 2.0.
 It will leverage Google Cloud’s infrastructure
for seamless onboarding of customers.
 The infrastructure will also be the technology
foundation of a customer acquisition engine.
Axis Mutual Fund launches CPSE Plus SDL 2025
70:30 Debt Index Fund
 Asset management company Axis Mutual
Fund has announced the launch of Axis
CPSE Plus SDL 2025 70:30 Debt Index Fund.
 It is a target maturity scheme whose
benchmark maturity date is 30 April 2025.
 The scheme will track the Crisil IBX 70:30
CPSE (Central Public Sector Undertakings)
Plus SDL (State Development Loans) - April
2025.
Rohan Bopanna-Ramkumar Ramanathan win
Adelaide International doubles
 In Tennis, Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar
Ramanathan won the Adelaide International
doubles trophy in Australia, on 9 Jan 2022.
 The Indian pair beat Ivan Dodig-Marcelo Mela
in straight sets 7-6, 6-1 to win the trophy.
 It was Bopanna’s 20th ATP doubles title and
first for Ramkumar.
 They received USD 18700 as prize money
and earned 250 ranking points each.
World No.1 Ash Barty wins Adelaide International
 In Tennis, World No.1 Ash Barty won the
Adelaide International by defeating Elena
Rybakina of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-2 in Women's
Singles final at Cannebara on 9 Jan'22.
 This was Barty’s 14th career singles title and
second in Adelaide.
 Barty defeated 2020 Australian Open
champion Sofia Kenin and 2020 French Open
winner Iga Swiatek of Poland in the earlier
events before winning the title.
Rafael Nadal beats Maxime Cressy to claim
Melbourne title
 In Tennis, Spain's Rafael Nadal beat
America's Maxime Cressy 7-6(6), 6-3 to win

on 9 Jan 2022.
 It was Nadal's 89th tour-level title.
 Former world number one Simona Halep
defeated Veronika Kudermetova 6-2 6-3 at
the Melbourne Summer Set 1 final to claim

UP govt declares 4 villages near Nepal border as
revenue villages
 The UP govt has declared 4 villages located
near the Nepal border in the district as
revenue villages.
 These are Bhavanipur, Tedhia, Dhakia, and
Bichhia located in Mihinpurwa tehsil.
 These are Vantangiya villages.
 The Vantangiya community comprises people
brought from Myanmar during the colonial rule
to plant trees.
 A revenue village is a small administrative
region with defined borders.
FCRA licences of JNU, DU, IITD, RKM and others
restored
 Government has restored the Foreign
Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licences
of Jawahar Lal University (JNU), Delhi
University (DU), IIT Delhi, Ramakrishna
Mission, and 70 other non-government
organisations (NGOs).
 To receive foreign grants, NGOs have to
register with the Ministry of Home Affairs
(MHA), which assigns a unique FCRA
registration number, to be renewed every five
years.
World Hindi Day: 10 January
 Every year on January 10, World Hindi Day or
the Vishwa Hindi Diwas is observed
worldwide.
 The word Hindi originated from the Persian
word Hind, meaning the land of the Indus
river.
 On this day in 1975, the first World Hindi
Conference took place in Nagpur,
Maharashtra.
 In 2006, then PM Manmohan Singh declared
January 10 as World Hindi Day.
Chinese astronauts conduct first manual docking
experiment
 Three Chinese astronauts in the core module
of the country's under-construction space
station have successfully completed the
manual rendezvous and docking experiment
with the Tianzhou-2 cargo craft for the first
time.
 The experiment was the first time that the
three Chinese astronauts, Zhai Zhigang, Ye
Guangfu and Wang Yaping, used manual
teleoperation equipment to operate the cargo
craft.
China's Chang'e 5 lunar probe finds evidence of
water on moon
 China's Chang'e 5 lunar lander has found the
first-ever on-site evidence of water on the
surface of the moon.
 The study was published in the journal
Science Advances.
 It revealed that the lunar soil at the landing
site contains less than 120 parts-per-million
(ppm) water or 120 grams water per ton, and
a light, vesicular rock carries 180 ppm, which
are much drier than that on Earth.
Bharath Subramaniyam becomes India's 73rd chess
GM
 Bharath Subramaniyam on 9 January 2022
became India's 73rd chess Grandmaster,
securing the third and final GM norm at an
event in Italy.
 He scored 6.5 points from nine rounds along
with four others to finish seventh overall in the
event held at Cattolica.
 To become a GM, a player has to secure
three GM norms and cross the live rating of
2,500 Elo points.
Ex-RBI Governor Urjit Patel appointed Vice
President of AIIB
 Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel has been
appointed as a Vice President of the Beijing-
based multilateral funding institution AIIB.
 India is a founding member of the Asian
Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) with the
second-highest voting share after China.

 Patel will be one of the 5 Vice Presidents of
the AIIB with a three-year tenure.
 He will succeed outgoing Vice President D.J.
Pandian.
Adani Group sets up subsidiary ANIL for new energy
business
 Adani Group has set up a new subsidiary,
ANIL (Adani New Industries Ltd.) to undertake
green hydrogen projects.
 Adani Group will invest $70 bn in the new
energy space of the next decade.
 ANIL will also manufacture solar modules,
batteries, electrolyzers, associated upstream
manufacturing as well as ancillary industries
and undertake all such activities associated
therewith in this regard.
Vikrant, India's 1st indigenous aircraft carrier,
begins sea trials
 Vikrant, India's first indigenous aircraft carrier
(IAC) set sail on 9 January 2022 for another
set of sea trials to carry out complex
maneuvers in high seas.
 It will be inducted into the Indian Navy by
August 2022.
 The 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier, the largest
and most complex warship to be built in India,
successfully completed 10-day sea trials in
October 2021.
PM announces 26 December to be observed as
‘Veer Baal Diwas’
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced
that 26 December will be observed as ‘Veer
Baal Diwas’.
 He announced this on the occasion of
Gurupurab.
 It will mark the martyrdom of Sahibzada
Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh
Ji.
 They both were the sons of the 10th Sikh
Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
 They attained martyrdom after they were
executed by the Mughals.
