MOVIE REVIEW

“Troy”

This movie talks about the hero of Troy who is known as Achilles. His journey started when
Odysseys begs him to Odysseys. Then Achilles goes to his mother looking for an advise and he
risk his life for others. He went to the war and risked his life not because he wanted to protect
innocent people or because he was a good person but because he wanted to please his
mother and help his friend. That fact changed after he falls in love with Briseis. Achilles starts to
show a different selfless side of himself. First he gives up desire to be with Briseis in order to keep
her safe. Then he runs around her home trying to save her from the Greek soldiers who were
attacking the city. He kept Briseis safe from any harm but it cost him his life. Even though he
died, you can say Achilles was rewarded for his heroic deeds because he finally got to know
what it feels like to fight for a purpose.

In the movie, I noticed and appreciate the wonderful representation of the Greek culture.
Overall, I believe that the movie was accurate for the most part in the appearance, traditions
and characters of Greek. However, it was inaccurate in the motivations, depictions of certain
artworks, and overall basis of the war. The movie was entertaining and informative, but it is
obvious that the directors and filmmakers had to take certain situations to ensure that the
movie would be entertaining, not just educational. I actually like and loved Troy movie. I think
it’s fun even though it’s suitably tragic. I also have no problem with the fact that the story has
been altered. Greek mythology was an ever-changing thing and no two versions were ever the
same. I want to give some of my suggestions and expectations in the movie. Firstly, I hope that
anyone who is less familiar with Greece and Rome will find the differences interesting. Secondly,
the film did, to some extent, market itself as an adaptation of the Iliad, so it seems right to
explore just how the story has been adapted. Thirdly, I noticed that some of the changes in the
story are quite dramatic. I totally respect the director’s right to make said changes, but it was
expected already on first viewing. One thing I have learned from this movie is that, like these
people and characters in the movie, I believe that every person can make his or her name
memorable to all generations by emulating the noble deeds of the world’s greatest heroes. We
should make our lives respectable on the sight of the people that, like the tide of life, come and
go upon us.
