CAMPOAMOR

1888-1972
Clara Campoamor was a lawyer, writer and
Spanish politician. Was a deputy in the
Constitutional Courts of the Second Spanish
Republic between 1931 and 1933
She was a defender of the equality of women’s
rights and achieved women's suffrage in Spain
for the first time in its history.

INTERESTING FACTS
She was the second woman to join the Madrid
Bar Association, the first was Victoria Kent.

In 1914, he won a place at the Ministry of Public


Institutions, with the first position in the
competitive examinations.

She introduced the Children's Rights Act into


Parliament, as well as participating in the drafting
and defence of the controversial Divorce Act.

She created the Women's Republican Union,


which focused on promoting campaigns for
women's suffrage along with political and cultural
activities.
