Welcome to the new and special school year 2020-2021!

The school community of St. Jerome Academy is glad to have you as our partner in
the formation and moulding the minds and hearts of the future movers and leaders of
our church and country, our dear learners.

To begin this special school year under the new normal, we encourage both
parents/guardians and learners to put more efforts in complying wholeheartedly the
recommendations stated in each subject most especially in the Christian Living Education
which will last and a need for a lifetime.

In the First Module, we attached the Basic Prayers to be taught and memorized by our
learners within the First Quarter. This is to develop in them the basic theological
virtues of faith, hope and love of God, and also to give highest honor due to the
Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints particularly St. Dominic de Guzman and Venerable
Mother Rosario of the Vsitation, the foundress of the Congregation of the OP Molo
Sisters because we believe that grace works in nature. They are our models in living a
holy life. Moreover, this will help us fulfill and achieve the vision and mission of St.
Jerome Academy, “to be channels of faith and zealous bearers of truth.”

Let us all face the demands of the new normal under this time of pandemic with a
“smile” and TRUST in GOD.

Everything will pass, only GOD is enough!

Our Basic Prayers

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to your Christian Living class (CL). In this First Quarter, we wil learn and re- learn what
is prayer and the basic Christian prayers. Let see how far you have learned from your previous years.

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson the learners

1. Understand what prayer is

2. Identify reverently the different basic prayers

3. Practice and obeserve the different basic prayers in reverent and devotion.

PRAYER

Prayer is a way of communicating with God. It is the raising of one’s mind


and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God. Prayer is expressed
in words or gestures, it is the whole man who prays. But in naming the source of
prayer, Scripture speaks sometimes of the soul or the spirit, but most often of the
heart. According to the Sacred Scripture, it is the heart that prays.
If our hearts far from God, the words of prayer are in vain. As young children, we
first learned how to pray using the traditional prayers of the Church.

 The Sign of the Cross is a prayer that marks all Catholic Christians. It is a
sacred gesture that has more meaning and power than we often realize.
When we make the Sign of the Cross upon ourselves, we are expressing our
belief in the Triune God, who is Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Through it,
we remind ourselves of God’s love for us, of the sacrifice Jesus made to give
use eternal life, and of the presence of the Holy Spirit with in us.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name.


Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; forgive us our trespasses


as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil. Amen.

 The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer that Jesus Himself taught us. It is the
perfect and most fundamental Christian prayer that all Catholic must
learn to pray by heart. When we pray the Our Father, we can profess who
God truly is and who truly are. It is a prayer of God’s children to their
loving Father.

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

 Hail Mary is rooted from two passages in the gospel of Luke. The first one
was found in Lk1:28 “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you” which was
mentioned by Angel Gabriel to Mary during the Annunciation. The second
passage can be found in Lk 1:42 “Blessed are you among women, and
blessed is the fruit of your womb”. These were the words of Elizabeth when
was visited by Mary. This event was known as the visitation.

GLORY BE

Glory be to the Father, and to the


Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,

ACT OF CONTRITION

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins,
because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because
I have offended You, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins,
to do penance and to
amend my life. Amen.

MORNING OFFERING

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my


prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day. For all the intentions of
Your Sacred Heart. In union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world. In reparation for my sins. For the intentions of
all our associates, and in particular, for the intentions of the Holy
Father for this month, Amen.

PRAYER BEFORE STUDY

Lord, true source of light and wisdom,


give me a keen sense of understanding,
a retentive memory,
and the capacity to grasp things correctly.
Grant me the grace to be accurate in my exposition,
and the skill to express myself with thoroughness and clarity.
Be with me at the start of my work,
Guide its progress and bring it to completion.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen

May by His passion and cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection
through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
 

THE THREE O’ CLOCK PRAYER


You died, Jesus, but the source of life flowed out for souls
and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.
O fountain of life, immeasurable Divine Mercy,
cover the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
O Blood and Water which flowed out from the Heart of Jesus
as a fountain of mercy for us, we trust in You!
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
have mercy on us and the whole world (3X)

PRAYER for the Canonization of the


Venerable MOTHER ROSARIO of the VISITATION
O God our Father, You have granted the Venerable
Mother Rosario of the Visitation the gift of loving You
and neighbor especially the sick, the poor and the needy
with full confidence. Through her intercession, help us to
live a holy life and be attentive to the needs of all our
brothers and sisters.
Lord grant us the joy of seeing the Venerable
Mother Rosario of the Visitation raised to the glory of
the altars among the blessed and the saints. We ask You
this through Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
