Religious but not Spiritual
"Spirituality means experiencing if the teacher is right.
Being Religious means believing that the teacher is right."
Religious individuals let the present
moment pass by as the “real” existence
that will come only after death.
They carve the world into the righteous vs.
the wicked and creates orders.
The religious feel a sense of being at war
with the world — as if life is a test.
Religious people are often using object-
referral in which the attention is placed upon
the externals in the experience:
Houses of worship
Books of scripture
Eternal rituals
Observances
A religious individual learns or
develops their beliefs based on
the experiences they are told
about their religious founders.
A religious person is committed to
following the guidelines set by his or her
religion. He/she observes the rites and
practices; the service and worship of God
or the supernatural.
Religiosity has faith in God or the
scriptures as being the infallible and
ultimate truth of reality.
Spiritual but not Religious
Spiritual individuals seek collective growth
and improvement in the here and now.
They appreciate the spark of the divine in all
beings.
The spiritual feel a deep interconnectedness
and empathy for the planet and all its
inhabitants.
Spirituality is much more about inner
understanding. It’s a matter of where
devotion and worship are directed:
To an external practice, object, or
figurehead
To your soul, higher self, or divinity within
Spiritual practices such as yoga and
silence allow you to make conscious
contact with more expanded
states of consciousness.
A spirituality enforces the idea that all
people are the same. The world has no
perimeters, races, or cultural partitions.
Humanity is all one, with love being at the
core of everyone's being.
Spirituality doesn’t dismiss faith; however,
it leans more heavily on direct experience
of the soul or divinity.
