1. - COMPRESSOR WASH. (72-00-00 PARRA. 7 LITERAL B.)

A. Preparation of Equipment (Ref. Fig. 702)

Figure 702 Compressor Wash System – Schematic
(1) Set up compressor wash system as shown on schematic.
NOTE: Tubing for interconnection of components is to be 5/16 in. (8 mm) ID minimum.
B. Motoring Wash - Desalination

CAUTION: USE OF THE CORRECT MIXTURE AS SPECIFIED IN PARA. 5. A. PRECEDING IS VERY IMPORTANT,
NOT ONLY WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW FREEZING AT THE TIME OF WASHING, BUT ALSO IF THE
TEMPERATURE IS EXPECTED TO BE LOW BETWEEN THE TIME OF WASHING AND THE NEXT START.
(1) Remove the cap and connect the engine wash rig (PWC32677-300) to the
wash ring. Alternatively, connect via suitable hose to drinking quality water
supply for ambient temperatures above +4°C (+39°F).

(2) Fill wash tank with prepared rinse solution (Ref. Table 706).
CAUTION: USE ONLY DEMINERALIZED/DISTILLED WATER ON HOT ENGINES WHERE TEMPERATURE IS MORE
THAN 65°C (149°F).
(3) Pressurize tank at 30 to 50 psi (207 to 345 kPa) with air or nitrogen supply.
NOTE: 1. If drinking water tap is being used and pressure is less than 30 psi
(207 kPa), connect through a centrifugal pump.

NOTE: 2. To prevent precipitation of deposits through the use of hard

water, engine must be allowed to cool to below 65°C (150°F).
Minimum cooling period of 40 minutes must be allowed since the
engine was last operated.
CAUTION: DO NOT MOTOR ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. OBSERVE STARTER COOLING PERIOD (REF.
AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL)

(4) Ensure aircraft bleed air system is OFF.

(5) Disconnect flow divider/dump valve hose prior to injecting rinse solution.
Place detached end of flow divider/dump valve hose into a suitable
container for collection of mixture.

CAUTION: DO NOT MOTOR ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. OBSERVE STARTER COOLING PERIOD (REF.
AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL).

(6) Motor engine and when Ng reaches 5%, inject rinse solution (or water) into
engine.
(7) Check that wash/rinse solution is leaking from the drain valve during the
wash/rinse motoring cycle. If no solution leaks through the drain valve, stop
motoring. Remove and inspect the drain valve before continuing the wash
(Ref. 72-00-24, P3 AIR FILTER - MAINTENANCE PRACTICE).

(8) Stop motoring a er 30 seconds.

(9) Close tank valve as soon as Ng falls to 5%.

WARNING: PUT ON EYE PROTECTION WHEN YOU INSTALL

LOCKWIRE OR SAFETY CABLE. PIECES CAN BREAK OFF AND
CAUSE INJURY.

(10) Disconnect the engine wash rig (PWC32677-300) from the wash ring. If
applicable, install the cap on wash ring. Torque the cap 270 to 300 lbf.in. (31-
33 Nm) and install lockwire or safety cable.

CAUTION: DO NOT MOTOR ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. OBSERVE STARTER COOLING
PERIOD (REF. AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL).

ENGINE STARTER LIMITATIONS

The engine starter duty cycle is the following:
On battery With external power
— 40 seconds on, 60 seconds off — 25 seconds on, 30 seconds off
— 40 seconds on, 60 seconds off — 25 seconds on, 30 seconds off
— 40 seconds on, 30 MINUTES off — 25 seconds on, 30 MINUTES off

(11) Motor engine for 30 seconds to dry engine.

(12) Reconnect flow divider/dump valve hose after drying cycle (Ref.
Aircraft Maintenance Manual).

(13) After starter cooling period, start engine (Ref. 71-00-00). Abort start if
ignition does not occur after 10 seconds from fuel pressure indication.

(14) If you will not operate the engine in the next 15 minutes, run the
engine at flight idle for at least five minutes to completely dry the engine.
