Summative Assessment: Math

Learning Objective:
By completing a written test, TSW be able to correctly solve counting numbers 0-20.

Summative Assessment:
TSW be given a piece of paper with 6 problems where the students will need to count up the objects
and write the number on the line. To complete this assignment, students will also be provided with
chips to try to solve subtraction problems independently.

Rationale: This summative assessment meets the learning objective because it is covering the content
standard stated. The learning objective states students must correctly solve and count numbers 0-20.
This will be done by seeing the students answers to the equations on the written assessment. The
portion of the learning objective regarding representing problems using images will be covered on the
summative assessment where students must draw objects to represent the number given. This
summative assessment will prove whether students understand the concept of numbers 0-20, how to
solve subtraction problems, and if they know how to represent these problems using images.

This scoring guide will be used to determine how well students completed the summative assessment. If
the student does the whole assignment correctly, they will receive “I understand this” in every category.
If there is a category, they got some right and some wrong they will fall under the “I am starting to
understand this” category. If the student doesn’t solve any or a majority of the problems incorrectly
then they will fall under the “I still need more practice” category. The category they fall under is where
the written feedback will be provided.
Differentiation/Scoring Guide Explanation: The students will still be asked to complete the
written assignment but instead of having to draw their own images they will be provided with already
drawn images. The student’s scoring guide will also be modified to fit which tools or manipulatives they
will be using to help them complete this summative assessment (this can include a number line, chips, or
any objects in the classroom). The students will also be allowed to have assistance in reading what the
problem/equation says.
