PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. ROLLER SHUTTER DOORS

1. Curtain: Minimum 18-gauge thick double skin construction with slats of aluminum/ASTM B209 and
22mm thick polyethylene insulated core; baked acrylic enamel finish. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF) TO
AAMA # 605.2 or powdered organic coating - silicone modified polymer to standards of NAAMA with
reference standards; color to be as selected by owner representative and permanent and free from
"banding" or "streaking"; 150mm wide x required length; ends of each slat fitted with end locks to act as
wearing surface in guides and to prevent lateral movement; bottom fitted with angles to provide
reinforcement and positive contact with floor in closed position.

2. Curtain Guides: formed aluminum angles for required sizes and configurations with a formed bell mouth
at top to ensure accurate lead of curtain into guides.

3. Roller Shaft (Counterbalance): Steel pipe and helical steel spring system capable of producing sufficient
torque to assure easy operation of curtain from any position; adjustable spring tension.

4. Housing: Prefabricate from minimum 14 gauge (1.8mm) thick aluminum sheet internally reinforced to
maintain rigidity and form.
5. Weather stripping: Water and rot proof, resilient type; located along jamb edges, bottom of curtain, and
within housing.

6. Hardware: Manufacturer's standard shoot-bolts either side of door bottom edge on inside, applicable for
attachment of padlock.

2.2 ELECTRIC OPERATOR & CONTROLS

A. Electric Operator: Side mounted; 240-volt, single phase, 50Hz supply to 1/2 hp electric motor or as
required for opening, adjustable friction clutch, double shoe brake system actuated by independent full line
voltage solenoid controlled by motor starter; fully enclosed positive gear driven limit switch; fully enclosed
magnetic cross line reversing starter.

B. Control System shall be 'Press to Run'. Continuous pressure on a directional button causes the door to
start and travel in the desired direction and stop at the limit of its travel. If pressure on the button is
released the door will immediately stop. The operative cannot leave the shutter and allow it to descend
onto an obstruction.

C. Method of disconnecting drive mechanism in the event of a power failure.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine supports provided by others, at time of tendering and again before installation, and ensure that
they are adequate. Report any deficiencies to the Engineer/Architect/ Owner Representative.
Commencement of work will signify acceptance.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Install overhead coiling doors manually operated and with electrical operation and emergency chain
drive links in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Fit, align, and adjust door assemblies' level and plumb; provide smooth operation.

C. Electrically operated controls and control panels located where indicated. All wiring in exposed
conditions to be concealed in conduit.

D. In normal operation, doors shall be raised and lowered by electric operator. In case of fire, the fusible
links shall part at and release the automatic closing mechanism, causing the door to close. The closing
speed shall be controlled by a governor. The flame baffle of the hood shall be released through the parting
of a fusible link. Links located both sides, total 4 per door.

3.3 The automatic closing mechanism shall in no way affect the normal operation of the door in general
service, after automatic closure, the door may be hand operated until the reset mechanism has been re-
activated.

3.4 TESTING

A. Upon completion of the roller shutter door installation, and a minimum of one month before
Substantial Completion and as a condition of their acceptance, demonstrate to the Engineer’s/Architect
satisfaction that the doors operate smoothly, lock securely, and have been properly installed.
