Field Visit to RHC

Subject: CHN-I Visit Site: RHC Khurianwala

Topic: Healthcare System in Pakistan
Departure Time: 9 am Arrival Time: 11:30 am

Purposes
• To fulfill curriculum demand to acquire knowledge about the real situation
• To compare the acting policies of Pakistan with standards in order to know the scarcity of
health facilities of Pakistan’s Healthcare System
• To analyze and conclude the health-related issues and quality management with minimum
resources.
• To make suggestions to deal with the over workload and over population
Observations
• RHC has all the facilities as per standard.
• Staff is competent and cooperative.
• Building is in good condition. An X-ray room, labor room, FP ward, Vaccination center
and Operation Theatre are present.
• Transportation facilities are available; one ambulance provided by Rescue 1122.
• Major staff is present. Lacks 2 ward boys and 3 Naib Qasids.
• RHC has a large area of about 9 acres. Out of which only 4 acres are covered and the left
is uncovered.
• Dumping is the method of waste management.
• Refers to DHQ.
• Almost all of the information charts are in Urdu; best suitable for village clientele.
Related issues
• Shortage of staff at RHC worsens the overburden and declines the quality assurance.
• RHC has a huge workload since it is serving a population of about 5 to 7 lakhs. Whereas
the standard population under an RHC is 30,000-45,000.
• By standards an RHC is supposed to be linked to one U.C at a time. But RHC khuranawala
is serving the populations under two U.Cs simultaneously. This overburdens the healthcare
team at RHC and can be a hindrance in the way of quality assurance.
• The area around the staff residencies is not clean and could be a probable cause of ailment
for the staff.
• Dumping area is in close proximity to staff residencies.
Suggestions
• Govt. should provide proper faculty according to standards.
• Upgrading RHC to a non-teaching DHQ or THQ can help dealing with overburden and
ensuring quality control.
• Establishment of a new RHC for U.C 21 can help in distributing the workload.
• Govt. should provide more non-stationed staff to RHC for the purpose of educating the
public about proper waste disposal to overcome most of the diseases.
