Question: Why is critical reading a form of reasoning?

Answer: I can say that critical reading is a form of reasoning because the information being stated is powerful. To use of
information were effectively and efficiently presented. More so, the readers and consumers of information must always be
wary of being critical. This is how we see critical reading as reasoning.

B. Read the passage carefully. Find the claim, the evidence, and the reasoning in the passage. Write your answer on the
space provided. (2 points for every answer)

Crecencian T.V.L. senior high school graduates are capable of joining the workforce and be globally competitive skilled
workers since the passing National Competency II examination is the result of the in-depth training that they had
developed while in school. Crecencian T.V.L instructors are highly skilled in their field of specialization. They are NC III &
IV holders and have years of experience in the industry before joining the academe. Many of the skilled graduates are
now hired by different corporations and some of them continue their college education in connection with their chosen

Philippine Youth Commissioner Believes Teen Pregnancies Will Decrease

If Girls and Boys Were in Separate Classrooms

Unwanted teen pregnancies continue to be a problem in the Philippines, but instead of properly implementing the
Reproductive Health Law, some officials are still proposing what some would describe as archaic solutions. Yesterday,
the head of the country’s National Youth Commission (NYC) suggested that boys and girls should be in separate
classrooms from Grades 7 to 12 to curb the rising cases of teen pregnancies and HIV.

“A lot of grade school students already have girlfriends and boyfriends because they are classmates. If they have an
activity that they need to finish after school, they do it in their houses and the sex happens there. They could become
teenage mothers,” NYC Chairperson Ryan Enriquez told ABS-CBN News.

According to the Commission on Population (POPCOM), nearly 200,000 Filipino women aged 15-19 years old get
pregnant each year. In 2017, the Philippines had a population of 104.9 million. HIV is also a huge concern. In 2018, as
many as 32 people were diagnosed with HIV daily, Rappler reported, citing the Philippine National AIDS Council.

While Enriquez also urged for proper sex education in schools, he was adamant about his segregation idea. “They
wouldn't be assigned together for projects, there wouldn't need to be a reason to stay over,” he said. Under this proposed
set-up, students can still interact with the opposite sex around campus, but won’t be assigned to the same classes.
Enriquez said this will still help. “If you're curious and you have a classmate who's a boy, the temptation is there,”
Enriquez said.

Netizens were quick to criticize the proposal. "Separation of male and female students means double the facilities, we
already lack enough classrooms,” said @idunnowhouare. "Educate them instead of isolating them with (sic) one another.
Girls and boys can learn things together other than sex,” said @choy_loves. “For me, sex education is a key for this.
Students from high school to college are open-minded,” said @rvnclwhouse.

Philippine lawmakers finally passed the controversial Reproductive Health Bill, which mandates sex education, in 2012,
but the law is still not implemented fully.

Counterclaim: “Separation of male and female means double facilities, we always lack enough classrooms.” I agree to this
claim because as I observed especially in public schools there are lack of classrooms for instructions and separating men
and women in school will only add another cost to build new buildings, facilities and other things needed in school and
separation is impossible.

Facts to support the counterclaim:

Based on the data released by DepEd, the classroom requirements for the year 2020 is 242,603 classrooms. This figure,
DepEd said, accounts for 110,954 classroom shortages; 85,524 replacements of classrooms scheduled for
condemnation/demolition; and 46,125 classrooms for the Last Mile Schools. With this, separation of men and women in
school is impossible especially there are lacking of classrooms still for heterogeneous learners in school.
