Microgrids: part-2

PID controller based voltage-current control strategies in synchronously rotating reference frame
(dq) were presented in. However, these control strategies can work well in balanced and linear
conditions, but, can’t cope with unbalanced disturbances and nonlinear currents. The
conventional droop laws with virtual inertia, which is embedded virtually through the filter
cutoff frequency enables the power sharing among multiple inverter systems. However, this
inertia may not suffice for the transients and may need to be increased to improve the transient
performance. Hence, the droop laws used for power transfer in microgrids should be robust
enough to handle the transient response issues.
