Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills


Must have ability to match pitch and echo teacher.
Must have ability to read rhythmic, tonal, and melodic exercises at appropriate level per
class.

Behavioral Objectives
At the conclusion of this lesson, students will be able to:
 Perform the given rhythmic examples on takadimi syllables from sight (INAS7).
 Perform the given melodic examples on solfege syllables from sight (INAS7)
 Sing expressively and with good tone (INAS7)

Materials
 Piano
 Sound Connections PDF
 Yard Stick (for pointing at board)
 Awakening score
 Elijah Rock score
 Laudate Dominum Score

Procedures

10:14 Stretching
- Lead Students through the following stretches
o Stretch core to the right and left
o Trunk twists
o Bend trunk down and slowly roll up
10:16 Breathing
- In for 2 out for 8, 12, and 16
o Remind students as necessary the proper breathing technique
- Lead through a series of deep breaths (to bring focus)
10:18 Vocal Technique Exercises
- Have students try to find a C5
o Check and correct if necessary
- Starting on that C5
o My oh my oh my SFMRD
o Move down by half steps to around C major
- Starting on C Major
o Eeee oooo eee DSLSD
o Students echo
o Move up by half steps
- Sirens
10:20 Tonal/Melodic Literacy
- Lead through tonal echoing
- Pull up first tonal exercise on the board ask the students
o Key
o Treble or bass clef
o First appearing solfege syllable
 How they got to their answers!
- Give students a few seconds to look at the exercise, then run it.
o If there are issues, repeat and clarify as necessary
- Repeat for second tonal exercise
- Pull up Melodic Exercise
- Lead through tonal echoing

o Each class will complete the tonal/melodic exercises that follow the previous
days.

o Cascade scale

o Run the piece, stopping and isolating parts as necessary
 Ending will likely need reminding
o Try running through whole piece if time allows
