MODULE 1 —What I Can Do

Learning Task No. 7: Supposed that you are the main character in the situation, and you are required to act or to
decide:
a. What will you do?

b. How will you classify your choice? Is it practical or intellectual?

c. What will be the cost of your decision?

1. Atty. Nathalie Joy is one of the best criminal lawyers in the country. One time her boyfriend Mark who is the judge of
the Regional Trial Court of Calamba was assassinated by the unknown armed men. One evening, she received a call from
her friend saying that she has to meet her old client and friend. Upon coming to her office, she received her former
client and friend Zandy. Zandy confessed that she is the one who commanded the assassins to assail the judge. Unknown
to Zandy is the relationship between the celebrity lawyer and the deceased judge. However, before they talked, both
signed an agreement that says that what shall transpire in their conversation shall be considered as privileged
communication. Zandy asked Atty. Nathalie to be her legal counsel. Atty. Nathalie Joy and her deceased fiancé highly
believe in the sanctity of the legal profession. If you are Atty. Nathalie Joy, what will you do?

a. What will you do?

If I am Atty. Nathalie Joy I would refuse to be her legal counsel because I believe in the sanctity of my legal
profession. I would rather advice her, as her friend, to confess what she did to the authorities and face the
consequence of her actions.

b. How will you classify your choice? Is it practical or intellectual?

My choice to refuse to be her legal counsel is intellectual. It is true that she did a crime. She has to face its
consequences. Also, to prevent this kind of crime from happening again. No one should be above the law.

c. What will be the cost of your decision?

It may end our friendship, however, it will lead to bringing justice to what happen to my boyfriend/judge.

2. Victoria, the mother of Rico, is known to be a church servant in their Local Church. One night while she was preparing
for diner, suddenly, her son came rushing to her. This son of hers confessed that her girlfriend Gayle was found
pregnant. Her girlfriend, being a minor, told her parents that she was just simply seduced by her boyfriend that is why
they ended up with a child in her womb. Frederico, the father of Gayle and a military sergeant, becomes furious and
hunts the lover of his daughter to harm the latter. Afraid of the father of Gayle, Aling Victoria brought his son to Pastor
Denggoy, the eldest brother of Vicoria, to seek refuge for his son. It so happened that the said pastor and Frederico are
“compadres” because the former is one of the godfathers of Gayle in her baptism. If you are Pastor Denggoy, what will
you do?

a. What will you do?

If I were Pastor Denggoy, I will talk first to both parties. I will ask what really happened. If Rico really seduced the
girl, he has to face the consequence of what he did - because it is considered as an abuse/rape already. I will tell
Gayle's father that Rico is in me. However, if Rico is innocent, he shouldn't take refuge. He will face Gayle's father and
accept the responsibility since they are having a baby.

b. How will you classify your choice? Is it practical or intellectual?

My choice is intellectual because as a pastor I should be an agent of truthfulness and care for life. The grounding
principle of my decision is to help the people involved settle their issues in a peaceful way.

c. What will be the cost of your decision?

The cost of my decision will be anyone from Rico and Gayle's family might get angry. However, it is better to
have serve the truth and justice to the one who deserves it.

3. During a buy-bust operation conducted by the PNP San Gabriel City, the daughter of the incumbent city mayor,
Chenelyn, was accosted by the policemen in pot – session. There is a strong public belief that Chenelyn is behind the
rampant drug activities in his town. During the preliminary investigation, Dr. Nicole, the resident criminal laboratory
doctor is given the task of conducting a drug test to the accosted daughter of the city mayor. Dr. Nicole is known for her
credibility for her profession and is even recognized by the United Nations as one of the excellent practitioners in her
field. In the afternoon before she would conduct the drug test for the accused, she received a call from her mother, who
was a victim of a drugrelated crime, saying that she must perform the drug test well. After a few minutes, the city mayor
himself shows up and offers 1.5 million pesos surety just to falsify her soon to be findings. The mayor indirectly
conveyed that if she does anything against his will, evil may befall on Dr. Nicole’s family. Outside the Crime Laboratory is
a group of anti-drugs citizens shouting for justice and conviction against the accused daughter of the city mayor. If you
are Dr. Nicole, what will you do?

a. What will you do?

This dilemma is hard to answer because if I refuse to do what the mayor wills, my family would be at risk. However,
I would still do what is right. I will ask for the national government to protect my family. I believed that God will help
me too.

b. How will you classify your choice? Is it practical or intellectual?

My choice is intellectual. Even if it will cost the safety of my family, I would still choose to do what is right. I
believed that justice must be served to the people who deserved it.

c. What will be the cost of your decision?

The safety of my family would be at risk. I will also be fighting against authorities with high position. But I firmly
believe in justice. I will let all these things and worries to God.

Shared ideas of the three Philosophers:

Intersubjectivity require accepting differences and not to impose on
others. Labels are both negative and positive. We are still different
individuals, different appearances, characteristics, attitudes, beliefs and
point of views. We could go beyond the labels, redesign it to something
new. If negative labels can be contagious, so can positive ones. We must
focus on the positive for these labels can strengthen relationships. We
are unique. Differences are not hindrance to intersubjective relationship.
Communicate, relate and perceive each other.
MODULE 2 — Additional Aftivities
SONG ANALYSIS: Intersubjective relationship is one of the favorite themes of Filipino songs. Think of a
Filipino song which is about intersubjectivity. Write down the lyrics of the song and analyze how
intersubjectivity is explored by the song. Give also the implication of the song to relationships you have with
others.

SONG:
Pag-ibig by Spongecola (from Musixmatch)
Gumaganda ang paligid
Kung bawat tao ay puno ng pag-ibig
Napapawi ang pighati
Masilayan lang ang iyong ngiti
Oh, kay gandang isipin
Ang isang mundong puno ng pag-ibig
Parang isang bulaklak na kay ganda
Na inabot mo sa iyong sinisinta
Ang iyong nilaan na pagmamahal
Ang dulot nito ay tunay na ligaya
Pag-ibig nga ang susi
Nararapat lang ibahagi (ibahagi)
Gumaganda ang paligid
Kung bawat tao ay puno ng pag-ibig
Napapawi ang pighati
Masilayan lang ang iyong ngiti
Oh, kay gandang isipin
Ang isang mundong puno ng pag-ibig
Isang mundong puno ng pag-ibig
Isang mundong puno ng pag-ibig
Isang mundong puno ng pag-ibig
Isang mundong puno ng pag-ibig

ANALYSIS:
Intersubjectivty was explored in the song by stating that our surroundings
will be better if we have love or know how to love. It is also said in the song that
this is the key and deserves to be share. It can also remove grief in our lives.
Intersubjectivity is also synonymous with the word agreement. If there is
something that we can agree on, in this case, love, it will have a greater impact
on us.
When it comes to what the song is implying regarding my relationships
with others, it implies that it feels good to love others because when you see or be
with them, problems can go away or perhaps take you to another world and enjoy
things. I agree with the song because what the songwriter said really happens; it
does not matter if it is a love for the opposite sex; It can also be on your family
and friends. If we understand each other and learn to love them, we can find
peace. And that is also why intersubjectivity is fun to know.
