OPTIMIZATION
TECHNIQUES FOR TELECOMMUNICATION

Master degree in Telecommunication Engineering

A.A. 2009-2010
COURSE GOALS

Our main goals are:

• Help the student to develop working
knowledge of Optimization techniques

• Develop the skills and the background

needed to recognize, formulate and
solve optimization problems.
COURSE GOALS

The course is meant to be on general

optimization techniques.

Then we will focus our attention to the

solution of practical telecommunication
problems.
COURSE GOALS
In order to solve an optimization problem
we must:
• Formulate the problem.
• Develop a Suitable Mathematical Model of
the problem.
• Evaluate the computational resources
required in order to solve the problem.
• Choose the appropriate algorithm.
• Calibrate it.
• Summarize the results
Required Background

The only background required of the student is a

basic knowledge of calculus and linear algebra.

Prior exposure to numerical computing on

optimization is not needed material since we
develop all of the needed material from these
areas in the next lessons
Examples of optimization problems for
Telecommunication

• Design and optimization of conventional and non-

conventional antenna systems.
• Control of Smart arrays in complex enviroments.
• Advance microwave devices design.
• Microwave imaging applications for biomedical/industrial
applications.
• Unsupervised electronic devices design.
• Multimedia applications.
• Remote sensing applications
• Correction code and unconventional modulation
techniques.
