• 12 x 2 hour lectures: Tuesday 1300 to 1500 OR Thursday 1400 to 1600

• 2 Practicals – weeks 26, 34

Aims of the module

• Previous marine production modules have focused on technical and


management aspects of the marine production businesses
• This module looks purely at how the relevant industries work as businesses.
• We will be exploring the markets, elements of competition, price, cost
structure and financial analysis
• These are the elements of business planning and are relevant to any sector
of business you may enter – they are not only relevant to marine production.

• Maritime Economics, Martin Stopford, 3rd Edition


• Business Studies, Hall, Jones, Raffo, Chambers, Gray, 3rd Edition

• Other information will come from references provided during lectures


Course notes

• Lecture slides will be posted on blackboard and will constitute the course
notes
• In addition it is important that each student takes their own notes during the
class to supplement the basic notes provided
Assessment

• One 120 mins exam: 100% of formal assessment:


• Formative (un-marked questions designed to help you to understand the
subject) will be given with each lecture and will be discussed at tutorials.
