St.

Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, is full of
parades, good luck charms, and green
color everywhere. The event started
as a religious holiday, but over time it
has become a celebration of Irish
culture.
St. Patrick's Day
Patrick was born in Britain in the 4th
century but he was sold into slavery in
Ireland when he was 16. Luckily, he
escaped and traveled to France, where
he studied to become a priest. He
discovered that he wanted to convert
the pagans of Ireland to Christianity.

St. Patrick's Day

Patrick traveled all over Ireland,
starting monasteries and setting up
schools and churches. He served in
Ireland for 30 years. He died on March
17, 461 A.D., and that's why Saint
Patrick's Day is celebrated on March
17 each year.

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick was a real person, but
there are some myths related to him.
For instance, we often see the
four-leaf clover on St. Patrick’s Day.
However, according to legend, Patrick
used a three-leaf clover, or shamrock,
as part of his teachings.
St. Patrick's Day
Another legend says that Patrick
chased all the snakes out of Ireland.
But these creatures never actually
lived in the country!
St. Patrick's Day
Ireland is usually known as the
Emerald Isle, and historians believe
that green came to be associated with
Saint Patrick's Day because it takes
place just a few days before the
start of spring, when green plants
begin to emerge.
St. Patrick's Day
Leprechauns are one reason why
people wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.
The tradition says that wearing green
makes you invisible to leprechauns,
which like to pinch anyone they can
see! Some people also think green will
bring good luck, and others wear it to
honor their Irish ancestry.
St. Patrick's Day
Saint Patrick's Day was first
celebrated in the United States in
1737 in Boston, which is home to many
Irish immigrants.
St. Patrick's Day
Green decorations can be seen all over
the world! Even the Chicago River in
Illinois, US, is dyed green each year to
celebrate the holiday.
St. Patrick's Day
Another tradition includes eating
corned beef and cabbage on St.
Patrick's Day. People also gather to
watch parades of traditional Irish
dancers and musicians marching through
city streets.
St. Patrick's Day
One leaf is for fame,
and one leaf is for wealth,
and one is for a faithful lover,
and one is to bring you glorious health.

Happy Saint Patrick Day!
