T4 Non- defining Relative Clauses


APERTURA

OBJECTIVE: student will be able to give additional information on something and that information is not essential

We use non – defining clauses to give more information about a person or thing already mentioned. The extra
information is not essential to the main meaning of the sentence.

(Second sentence in red is the extra non information) Notice: We should put commas at the beginning and end of the
clause so, without the extra information we can understand well the sense of the sentence)

Nelson Mandela, spent many years in Robben Island (It is not necessary to use the second sentence)
