CASE ANALYSES: WAYS ON PROTECTING COMPANY’S ASSET

Requirement: Analyze the cases and apply the framework for ethical decision-making. Provide
recommendations on how to protect the company’s assets. (3 items x 10 points)

Case 1. Mang Bertos Kitchen consistently incurs losses even though their daily table capacity is maximized.
After further investigations, two (2) waiters do not charge five (5) of their regular customers for foods
or drinks they order, because it happens to be their friend, family, and girlfriends.

A framework for ethical decision-making, rules, regulations, or process should be created and
followed, Mang Berto’s Kitchen should clarify the rule to the staff that did not charge five (5) of
their regular customers for foods or drinks they order because it happens to be their friend,
family, and girlfriends. To keep Mang Berto’s Kitchen from deficits, a rule must be created and
apply to all employees that the management would not permit and tolerate this kind of behavior.
Additionally, if they have come about to know the customers, they can use the employee’s
discount that is more appropriate and implemented for the stores that sell food, goods, and
services. Furthermore, Mang Berto’s Kitchen have proper documents for the regulations and
consequences for each policy to prevent this kind of situation that will greatly affect the stability
of the business.

Case 2. You are the DLB Manufacturing owner and learned that the company is already losing inventories in
one (1) of your primary warehouse. You decided to visit the warehouse and noticed that the doors are
unlocked and see one (1) of the caretakers taking some inventories. You have sued him and learned
that the warehouse’s keyholder is by letting the doors unlocked keys for the caretaker to steal from
the company.

A framework for ethical decision-making, must act to Safeguard Property, keep track of the
inventory and the segregation duties. As I am the owner of DLB Manufacturing, I should not tolerate
the action of the caretaker and terminate immediately. The warehouse’s keyholder should also be
held liable for allowing the wrongdoings in my company. Losing inventories in this way is
unacceptable especially when I’m being reasonable with all the employees, entrusting and
empowering the ethics of each employee. A replacement employee for warehouse keyholder and
caretaker should be filtered and will have a rotational assignment in other warehouses and other
items for inventories that will be only allowed personnel can access. Everyday inventory will be
precisely checked upon presenting documents with proof to avoid this kind of treachery from
employees. Nevertheless, after this incident, if there have a problem especially finances that will
always be a reason why in the first place, they did it, I will create a department that could help these
employees within the financial aid so they can avoid this kind of habit and unethical work behavior
for the good benefit of my company.
Case 3. The property manager of IMDC is padding an expense account by purchasing expensive personal meals
and reimbursed it to the company as meeting expenses.

A framework for ethical decision-making, rules, regulations, or process should be created and
followed and the segregation of duties. The property manager should come to terms with the
importance of his expenses. The position is not a rational excuse for manipulating the company’s
account for his own use then refunded it as meeting expenses. This project manager should know
his limits and should not take advantage, the usage of the account of the company should be
acknowledged, follow, and have authorization as a way of safeguarding and avoiding this kind of
abusive employee. To avoid this scenario in occurring again, the segregation of duties will be applied
and precisely follow the appropriate job. All the transactions in all accounts should be checked all
the time, and all other meetings that the company’s account will be involved, and documentation
and agenda should be included as proof of honest expenses that will be compensated from the
company as this will take the company in advantage.
