Theory ECE 3219 (17.4.22)
1. Course Information:
Credit 3.00 (Three Contact Hours per Week), three lecture slots per week
according to class routine.
2. Instructor Information:
4. Course Rationale:
This course will introduce the function, operation, and application of common electrical engineering
instruments, measurement principles, and statistical analysis. The student will select and design simple
measurement systems for a given application, based on different physical measurement principles, error
analysis, signal conditioning, and data recording
5. Course Objectives:
After successfully completing this course, students will-
1. Understand basic electrical and electronic measurement system components along with different types
of methods of measurement.
2. Understand the principles of various types of transducers and sensors.
3. Be able to enhance knowledge in developing precise measurement with measuring variables and
different tools relating network.
Magnetic measurement: Flux meter, Flux and Flux density measurement. Determination of iron losses and their
separation.
Measuring instruments: Classification of measuring instruments. Ammeter, Voltmeter, wattmeter, AVO meter,
Energy meter, Ampere-hour meter and Maximum demand meter for measuring AC and DC quantities. Speed,
frequency and phase difference measurements. Illumination measurement.
Electronic measuring instruments: Digital instruments, VTVM, Q-meter and CRO.
Instrumentation: Extension of instrument range. Use of C.T. and P.T and calculation of their burden,
Instrumentation of substation.
Measurement of non -electrical quantities: Transducer. Measurement of temperature, pressure, displacement,
velocity, acceleration. Strain gauge and their applications.
