1. Course Information:
Credit 3.00 (Three Contact Hours per Week), three lecture slots per week
according to class routine.
2. Instructor Information:
4. Course Rationale:
Power system operators have the responsibility to ensure equilibrium between load and
generation at all time. The dispatch of power must be done economically satisfying frequency
and voltage requirement. As constancy of frequency and voltage are important factors in
determining the quality of power is vital to the satisfactory performance of power system. This course attempts
to develop these skills in students.
5. Course Objectives:
After successfully completing this course, students will-
1. Understand the concept of transient, steady state and dynamic stability.
2. Learn about HVDC, Harmonics, FACTS.
3. Understand the concept of AGC, state estimation, power system security, SCADA, unit commitment
Principles of power system operation: SCADA, convention and competitive environment. Unit commitment,
static security analysis, state estimation, optimal power flow, automatic generation control, automatic voltage
regulator and dynamic security analysis.
