4. Course Rationale:
Students of the Electrical & Computer Engineering department need to know advanced power system
topics, especially details about power system stability, FACTS, and overhead power transmission line, as well
as principle of power system operation in order to understand efficient power system devices for various
applications.
5. Course Objectives:
After successfully completing this course, students will-
1. Be able to design modelling of synchronous generator.
2. Be able to determine the transient stability.
3. Understand the effects of contingency.
4. Be able to realize the effects of harmonics in circuits.
5. Be able to understand the operating principle of SVC, STATECOM.
Introduction: Methods of measurement. Statistical method applied to field of measurement and error
analysis and calibration.
Resistance, Inductance and Capacitance Measurements: Different methods of measuring high, medium and
low resistances. Methods of measuring self and mutual inductance and capacitance measurement. A.C. and
DC bridge methods, Measurement of insulation and earth resistances. Localization of cable fault.

1. Class Participation Attending classes are mandatory for the students. Students will be marked
and Attendance in a scale of 10 marks according to Academic Ordinance for the
Undergraduate Studies.
2. Quiz For this course quiz mark is 20. The students need to seat for an
examination with the syllabus what was taught throughout the lab in this
course.
3. Lab Performance, All the assessment strategies are considered as regular assessment. The
Lab Report, Lab course teacher will assign works to the students and evaluate them with a
Final, Presentation, scale 45 marks that will be counted as regular assessment marks in final
Viva scoring.
4. Board Viva It is mandatory for individual student to attend the board viva. The
students will be evaluated in a scale of 25 marks. Absence in the board
viva will result in “F” grade in all sessional courses of the
corresponding semester.
