Impact and Service

This year has been more of a growing year for me. I am a part of a good number of

organizations on campus and I am required to do a lot for them. The first is my Fraternity Chi

Phi. Within Chi Phi this semester I served as the Social Chair so I was the one who planned any

social event that we had; this includes parties, socials with other greek organizations, etc. As well

as, I served as the IFC representative for the Fraternity. This means that I was a voice for the

chapter in the IFC meetings and had to represent what we wanted and how we wanted Greek

Life to be reflected and viewed on campus. In addition to my Fraternity, I was a senator on SGA

and I serve as the co-chair of the Parking Ticket Committee. With both of these positions in

SGA, I expanded on my communication skills and ran the in-person meetings for the parking

ticket appeals, which helped with my interpersonal skills. Additionally, I had about 50 or so

hours of community service with SGA that included working the events on campus such as the

kickoff back in August and other various things that SGA put on. I also won Mr. GSW which

means that I am now an ambassador and voice for the school. I plan on trying to improve the

university’s mental health services and make as many students feel like they belong at GSW to

help improve our retention rates. I also am a part of the President Jimmy Carter Leadership

Program which required me to get 45 hours of community service on top of the community

service with SGA. I served as a mentor for the freshman class of the leadership program students

so helping them grow and avoid the mistakes that I made was very fulfilling. In addition to being

a mentor in the leadership program, I was a Storm Spotter so I served as a co-teacher for

University 1000 and guided more freshman students through their first semester. This in all had

its ups and downs but I truly enjoyed creating a bond with my students and being able to be the

role model that I would have wanted when I was a freshman. I was very sad to have my last class
yesterday and I will definitely be doing the position again to help future generations of

hurricanes find their place at GSW. Within the business leadership program, I volunteered at the

porch tour and helped some with the major and minors fair. Both of those events were very fun

and gave me an opportunity to create a bond and interact with people that I was not close to. One

of those people was Keri, she and I worked the Stovall’s porch during the tour and spent the day

getting to know one another, and then we had an opportunity to actually take the tour and enjoy

the amazing drinks and speak with the lovely owners of the homes. Overall, I am ending this

semester with 120 hours of community service, a pretty good amount of memories, and a lot of

experiences that I would not replace for anything in the world. The Business Leadership program

helped me focus on my leadership skills and allowed me to grow and strengthen my

interpersonal skills. I look forward to seeing what next semester has in store, and I wish y’all a

restful break and a happy holiday.
