Safety
1. Work safety symbol

This symbol is in this operating manual allocated to those safety


instructions which
deal with danger to the health and life of persons.
These instructions must be strictly observed. Please pass this
document to the operators of the machine.

Apart from the work safety instructions in this operating manual, the general as well
as the local safety and accident prevention regulations must be observed.

2. “Attention” notice

ATTENTION
This symbol is in this operating manual allocated to those notes, regulations and
guidelines which deal with damage to or destruction of the machines as a result of
inexpert operation.

3. General work safety and “Attention” instructions


• It must be ensured that every person charged with the assembly, operation and
maintenance of the machine has read and understood this operating manual
before commencing work.

• The machine has been built in accordance with the latest state of technology and
is safe and reliable. If, however, it is inexpertly operated by uninstructed persons, it
may cause grave injury and damage.
• The machine is intended exclusively for the application agreed with the ATTENTION
manufacturer and for the specified material to be handled. If this is not observed,
the manufacturer will not accept liability for any resulting damage or injury.

• For the assembly, commissioning, operation and maintenance, it must be made


clear which person is responsible for the work, so that safety is not impaired when
ATTENTION
working with the machine.

• The machine must only be operated in its original condition. ATTENTION

• If changes from the original condition are found, these must be reported by the ATTENTION
operator to the appropriate office.

• Conversions and alterations of the machine on the operator’s own initiative, which
could impair the machine’s safety are not permitted. ATTENTION

• All maintenance work on the machine must in principle only be carried out while
the machine is at rest. Before starting work, ensure that the machine cannot be
switched on accidentally or by unauthorized persons.

• The machine must never be operated without the guards of the drive units. Danger
of injury!

• The electrical connections of the drives must be adequately secured. If the


connection cable insulation is damaged or covers of terminal boxes are missing
there is a life-threatening danger of electrocution!

• In areas subject to explosion risk only machines with explosion-protected drives


must be used.

• When handling the machine or its components, care must be taken that the ATTENTION
handling equipment is only attached at the points of the machine provided for this
purpose. (See chapter “Handling”).

• The spring elements must not be touched while the machine is running.
Danger of injury!

• Never put a hand into the free spaces between firmly anchored and vibrating
components while the machine is running! In particular during the starting phase of
the machine there is a danger of injury through greater vibration amplitudes!

General Notes

• Only with the aid of this operating manual is it possible to start up, operate
and maintain the machine properly and safely.

• The manufacturer recommends that the operating manual is read through


carefully, since he does not accept liability for damage resulting from non-
observance of this operating manual.

• The operating manual should always be kept ready to hand for the operator
near the machine.

• This operating manual only covers the machine specified on the cover sheet
and their intended use.

• If difficulties arise which cannot be corrected by the user of the machine, he


should contact the service department of the manufacturer.

• Changes in design and construction, for the purpose of improving the


machine, are reserved.

Design and operation

1.1. General

With a vibration trough feeder type FUF products are conveyed by directed
vibrations through electro-mechanical drive. These FUF-feeders mainly consist of
conveyor trough, saddle, spring elements and an unbalance vibrator which vibrates
the conveyor trough. By these vibrations the product changes into small discharge
lines (micro discharge principle). This provides a constant flow rate.

1.2. Intended use


Only those products agreed upon in the contract have to be conveyed.
Beyond use is not in accordance with regulations. The producer is not liable for
resulting defects. The user/operator himself has to bear of the risk.
Intended use includes the compliance with the manuals and the inspection and
maintenance conditions.

1.3. Construction
A type FUF vibratory feeder consists of the following main elements:

1) Feeding trough

2) Saddle

3) Unbalance vibrator

4) Spring elements

1.4. Vibratory motion and its generation

The vibratory motions are generated by rotating unbalance masses. The diagram on
the next page shows the four extreme positions of the unbalance masses and the
resulting direction of force.

1.5. Drives

Two unbalance vibrators are used as drives.

1.6. Spring elements


Depending on the application, the following are used as spring elements:

„ helical compression springs


„ helical tension springs
„ rubber bumpers
„ plastic bumpers

Via these elements the static forces - consisting of machine weight and conveyed
material load - are transmitted to the supporting structure. These flexible elements
reduce the dynamic alternating forces produced by the vibratory motion to the
residual values shown in the drawing.

1.7. Noise information

A sound level LpA of 80 dB(A) is not exceeded. Measuring inaccuracy is +/- 2


dB(A). The measurements are carried out under test conditions as used by the
manufacturer on machines of comparible construction, the machines being fixed to a
concrete floor.The measurement points are situated on a reference cuboid, which
surrounds the machine surface at a distance of one metre. The measurements are
carried out without product.

Storage

• Until its final installation, the machine should as far as possible be stored in closed
rooms.

• If the machine is stored in the open, it must be covered with tarpaulins open
underneath, so that any condensate can drain off.

• In the case of seaworthy packing of the machine, this packing must not be
damaged or opened during transit and storage.

• The machine must be placed on a suitable base to counteract ground moisture.

• Electrical connection appliances must always be stored in closed, dry and frostfree
rooms.

• Spring elements supplied loose with the machine must be stored dry.

• The machine to be stored must be left in the assembly state as supplied. The ATTENTION
manufacturer does not accept liability for damage resulting from wrong reassembly
of the machine!

• The machines must not be placed on the drive guards! ATTENTION

• To ensure correct storage of the machine, any symbols which may have been
applied to the packing concerning storage and handling must also be observed!

Protect against heat! Protect against moisture! Careful: glasst!

Transport

• To avoid danger to persons and damage of the machine, the machine must be
handled with proper care! Apart from the instructions below, the general as well as
the local safety and accident prevention regulations must be observed.
ATTENTION

• The symbols applied to the machine packaging for handling and storage must be
observed:

Protect against heat! Protect against moisture! Careful: glass!

Hitch here! Centre of gravity! Up!

• If the machine is handled by crane, it must only be carried with handling gear
suitable for the purpose.

• If the machine is packaged, the handling gear must only be attached at the points
marked.

• The machine itself must only be carried at the hitching points provided (hitching
eyes). ATTENTION

• No additional hitching points must be attached to the machine by welding, flame


ATTENTION
cutting or drilling. (Notch effect of the weld or the flame-cut or drilled hole and
consequent risk of crack formation.

• The side walls or attached parts of the machine must not be compressed by ATTENTION
obliquely pulling ropes or chains!

• If handling safeguards are provided, these must only be removed on completion of


the installation work.

• When handling on loading surfaces, the machine must be protected against


toppling over and slipping.

• Machines must not be placed on the protective hoods (guards) of the drives!
ATTENTION

• Transit damage must always be reported to the manufacturer.

Assembly

1. General instructions

The assembly work must be carried out by qualified personnel.

The manufacturer does not accept liability for the consequences of wrong assembly! ATTENTION

Normally, a vibratory feeder type FUF is delivered completely assembled. For


installation and assembly the instructions below must be observed.

2. Arrangement of the support points for the spring elements

The dimensional variations shown on the installation drawing must be maintained


when arranging the customer-side support points for spring elements. Variations
from the tolerances must be compensated by corresponding shims. After that the
spring- or bumper supports supplied with the machine are put into position and the
fixing screws fitted loosely.

3. Installation of spring elements

The supports for the spring elements of the vibratory feeder must be cleaned to
remove any dirt. After that, place the spring elements onto the supports.

4. Installation of components supplied loose

If the drives, possibly present material outfeeds and/or covers participating in the
vibration had to be removed for transit, these must be installed as shown in the
drawing. On connection flanges the possibly present protective varnish must be
ATTENTION
removed. Only original fixing elements must be used for the assembly! All fixing
screws must be tightened to the special torque.(See chapter 11 “Drive” and table no.
1 for tightening torques on page 02 in this chapter).

5. Placing the vibratory feeder on the spring elements

The vibratory feeder must only be placed on the spring elements with suitable
handling gear! The spring elements must with the assembled machine be positioned
vertically and without offset. If an offset exists between the upper and lower end of
the spring element, the lower base must be realigned. After that the supports
(bases) are screwed tight with the correct torque. (See table no. 1 on page 02 of this
chapter).

6. Fitting of sleeves

Attach the destined collars at the material in- and outlets. The collars have to
mounted according their construction type. Collars made of elastic material are to be
attached without puckers. Multi-layered compensators have to be installed with an
allowance, to ensure that the run-out movements of the vibrating screens can be
absorbed certainly without any stress of collars which may deduct resp. delete the
them. Due to the plurality of the compensators it may be necessary to contact the
manufacturer in case of doubt. (Allowance see table no. 2).

7. Distance to stationary parts

Certain distances must be maintained during assembly between stationary and


vibrating components; their values are shown in table no. 2 in this chapter.
Pinch and sheer points have to be protected by the user/operator.

8. Stop bumpers

If stop bumpers are provided between stationary components and the feeder, the
distance and position given in the installation drawing must be set.

9. Checking the spring elements

The height of the spring elements subjected to the weight of the vibratory feeder
must be checked. The minimum permissible height for the loaded feeder is shown in
the installation drawing.

10. Electrical connection of the unbalance vibrators

For the electrical connection of the unbalance vibrators the instructions given in
chapter 11 “Drive” must be observed.

Starting up

1. Before starting up for the first time

• The voltage and frequency shown on the rating plates of the unbalance vibrators ATTENTION
must correspond to the customer-side voltage and frequency!

• All covers have to closed and all protective devices have to be mounted, otherwise
the machine cannot be put into operation.

• After the electrical connection of the unbalance vibrators, the direction of rotation of
the unbalance masses must be checked.

The direction of rotation must be counterrotating!

To check this, one guard of the unbalance vibrators each must be removed after ATTENTION
switching the vibratory feeder off and securing it against accidental or unauthorized
switching on. Now the direction of rotation is visible if the unbalance vibrators are
briefly switched on (approx. 2-3 seconds).

Careful! Danger of injury through rotating unbalance masses!

If direction of rotation is not contrarotating, one of the two unbalance vibrators must
have its polarity reversed.
After that the guards must be installed again - with the vibratory feeder switched off
and secured against switching on. (See chapter 4 “Construction and operation FUF”
as well as chapter 11 “Drive”).

2. Trial run without product

• The vibratory feeder is now first switched on to try it out. During the starting and
stopping phase the vibration amplitudes may be much greater than the operational
vibration amplitude!

When using an electrical motor brake, the deceleration time and amplitudes can be
reduced to a minimum. (See chapter 12 “Connected appliance”).

• If knocking or grinding noises should occur during the trial run, this may have the
following causes:

¾ Knocking of the vibratory feeder against stationary components

Remedy: Correction of the distances between vibratory feeder and stationary


components as shown in table no. 2, chapter 7

¾ Noise produced by helical compression springs

Remedy: The helical compression springs must be turned around their


longitudinal axis after switching the vibratory feeder off and securing
it against accidental starting

¾ Loose screw connections

Remedy: Tighten all screw connections with the specified tightening torques.
(See table no. 1 in chapter 7).

• The operational vibration amplitude of the vibratory feeder has been set in the
works. It is in individual cases possible that the handling rate of the feeder exceeds
the agreed value. If this has a deleterious effect on downstream machines or
arrangements, the conveying rate must be regulated by reducing the centrifugal ATTENTION
force.

It is recommended to reduce the centrifugal force of the unbalance vibrators to


about 50 % of the value set in the works. (See chapter 11 “Drive”).

The centrifugal force set in the works must only be increased after prior
consultation of the manufacturer!

If the conveying rate is controlled by a frequency converter, the latter must be set
to its minimum value. (See chapter 12 “Connected appliance”).

3. Trial run with product

• The height of the product layer in vibratory feeders without stationary guide panels
must not exceed 80 % of the clear height.

• Check sleeves, covers and seals for leaktightness.

• The minimum height of the spring elements given in the installation drawing must
not be undershoot even when the vibratory feeder is fully loaded.

• Should the handling rate of the vibratory feeder be insufficient, the centrifugal force
or when using a frequency converter the frequency must be increased. (See
chapter 11 “Drive” and chapter 12 “Connected appliance”).

Neither value must however be changed beyond the works setting! ATTENTION

Operation

1. Important notes

• For the operation of the vibratory feeder, not only this operating manual, but also
the local safety and accident prevention regulations must be observed. (See also ATTENTION
chapter 2 “Safety”).

• Access or walk-on as well as changes of settings at the machine during operation


are not permissible

• Faults must only be corrected with the vibratory feeder switched off and secured
against accidental starting!

• After switching off the vibratory feeder must only be switched on again at a total ATTENTION
standstill!

• If the temperature of the material being handled exceeds 80° C, the vibratory ATTENTION
feeder must always be run empty before leaving it to standstill.

• It has to be provided that no product falls out of the machine during operation.
Safety measures have to be provided by the customer.

• During conveying abrasive or dust can occur. In case of toxic products the
user/operator has to carry out the necessary cleaning of the discharged air and to
take the necessary measurements for protection of the staff.

2. Faults

All up- and downstream machines have to be turned off. They have to be protected
against unauthorized switch-on.

In case of malfunction it has to be provided that no product can fall out of the
machine. Safety measurements have to be provided by the customer

Operational difficulties in the form of unsatisfactory conveying behaviour and/or


changed noise production can be corrected with the help of fault tracing chart.

3. Before rest for a longer period

In case of a rest of the vibratory feeder for more than three months the following has
to be observed:

• The vibratory feeder must be completely empty and clean.

• Unlacquered parts have to be treatened with an anti-corrosion oil.

• If the vibratory feeder is stored in the open, it must be covered (see chapter 5
“Storage”).

• The unbalance vibrators have to be treatened according to chapter 11 “Drive”.

4. After rest for a longer period

• If the vibratory feeder is taken into operation again, chapter 8 “Starting up FUF”
has to be observed.

Maintenance

1. Important notes

Maintenance and repair work must only be carried out with the vibratory feeder
switched off and secured against accidental starting. (See also chapter 2 “Safety”).
ATTENTION

The vibratory feeder must be regularly serviced. Inadequate maintenance can lead ATTENTION
to faults or damage with consequent downtimes and repair costs.

Correct maintenance ensures safety and reliability.

2. Servicing intervals

The vibratory feeder must be serviced at the following intervals:

3. Maintenance operations

• The unbalance vibrators must be serviced as described in chapter 11 “Drive”.

• Fixing screws for unbalance vibrators, spring elements and wear linings must be
retightened with the specified torques after 50 hours of operation. (See chapter 7
“Assembly FUF”).

• Damaged fixing and safety elements must be replaced by parts of the same
construction. (See chapter 14 “Spare parts”).

• Check the spring elements. Damaged spring elements must be replaced by others
of the same construction. (See chapter 14 “Spare parts”).

• Cup seals, expansion joints and seals such as on covers or flaps must be checked.
Damaged parts must be replaced by others of the same construction. (See chapter
14 “Spare parts”).

• Linings must be checked and replaced if necessary. (See chapter 14 “Spare


parts”).

• The vibratory feeder will be damaged when operated with worn-out wear parts!

• The vibratory feeder must be checked for damage to the welded construction. If
damage is found, the manufacturer must be consulted. ATTENTION

• Caked-on product in the feeding trough must be removed.

1. Safety

vibrators

It must be ensured that every person charged with the installation, operation and
maintenance of the unbalance vibrator has read and understood this operating

manufacturer. If this is not observed, the manufacturer will not accept liability for any

For the installation, electrical connection, setting of centrifugal force and


maintenance, it must be made clear which person is responsible for the work, so that
safety is not impaired when working with the unbalance vibrator.

The unbalance vibrator must only be operated in its original condition, except for the
setting of centrifugal force. If changes from the original condition are found, these

Conversions and alterations of the unbalance vibrator on the operator's own


initiative, which could impair the safety, are not permitted.

All maintenance and setting work on the unbalance vibrator must in principle only be
carried at rest. Before starting work, ensure that the unbalance vibrator cannot be
switched on accidentally or by unauthorized persons.

The unbalance vibrator must never be operated without the covers of the centrifugal
weights. Danger of injury!

The electrical connection of the unbalance vibrator must be adequately fused..

If the insulation of the connection cable is damaged or if the cover of the terminal
box is missing, there is a life-threatening danger of electrocution! Such defects must
be corrected immediately!

In areas which are subject to explosion risk, only explosion-proof unbalance


vibrators must be used. This is indicated as such by the type of explosion-proof
enclosure shown in the rating plate as well as by the EX symbol on the housing of
the unbalance vibrator. In addition, the special requirements of this operating manual
for save use must be observed.

2. General notes
Only with the aid of this operating manual it is possible to install, set, operate and
maintain the unbalance vibrator properly and safely.

The manufacturer recommends that the operating manual is read through carefully,
since he does notaccept liability fordamage resulting from non-observance of this
operating manual.

The operating manual should always be kept ready to hand for the operator.

Changes in design and construction, for the purpose of improving the unbalance
vibrator, are reserved.

The characteristics power consumption [kW], rated current [A], rated voltage
[V], working moment [kgcm] and rated speed [1/min] are given on the rating
plate or type plate of the d rive.

3. Design and operation

3.1. General

The unbalance vibrator generates the vibratory motions by means of rotary


centrifugal weights.

3.2. Design of an unbalance vibrator

A type JVJVA unbalance vibrator type 10 - 27 consists of the following main


elements:

3.3. Operational characteristics

The unbalance vibrator is a three-phase squirrel-cage motor. The two shaft


extensions of the rotor, which is mounted in antifriction bearings, carry adjustable
centrifugal weights.

With the unbalance vibrator switched on, the rotary motion of the rotor and its
centrifugal weights generates a centrifugal force. This causes the machine
connected to the unbalance vibrator to vibrate.

Type N unbalance vibrators are in principle designed for continuous duty in


accordance with S1 to VDE 0530.

3.4. Noise information (according to 3. GSGV)

The sound pressure level can be taken from the data sheet of the unbalance motor.

The sound pressure level - at nominal speed and operating temperature has been
determined on a testing stand by the manufacturer.

4. Storage
Until its final installation, the unbalance vibrator should as far as possible be stored
in closed rooms.

If the unbalance vibrator is stored in the open, it must be covered with tarpaulins
open underneath, so that any condensate can drain off. In the case seaworthy
packing of the unbalance vibrator, this packing must not be damaged or opened
during transit and storage

The unbalance vibrator must be placed on a suitable base to counteract ground


moisture or it must be stored in shelves.

The unbalance vibrator must only be placed on its foot surfaces! ATTENTION

To protect against corrosion, the foot surfaces are greased before dispatch from the
works. This grease coating must only be removed immediately before installation..

5. Handling
To avoid danger to persons and damage of the unbalance vibrator, the unbalance
vibrator must be handled with proper care! Apart from the instructions below, the
general as well as the local safety and accident prevention regulations must be
observed.

If the unbalance vibrator is packaged, the handling gear must only be attached at the
points marked. The symbols for handling - if any - have to be observed:

The unbalance vibrator itself must only be carried at the hitching eyes provided at
the stator. Small unbalance vibrators must be carried by using a rope fixed at the
stator.

The unbalance vibrator must only be placed on its foot surfaces! ATTENTION

Transit damage must always be reported to the manufacturer. Care has to be taken ATTENTION
that the foot surfaces and covers are in a non-damaged condition.

6. Installation
The unbalance vibrator must be installed by qualified personnel. The manufacturer
ATTENTION
does not accept any responsibility for faulty installation!

The foot support surfaces of the unbalance vibrator must be metallically bright and
free from grease, paint or other impurities.

The support surfaces for the unbalance vibrator on the machine must be plane
parallel, have a maximum peak-to-valley height of Rz 25 µm and be metallically
bright as well as being free from dirt and grease.

The machine part on which the unbalance motor is mounted (e. g. motor cross- ATTENTION
member, motor base plate), must be sufficiently strong, to eliminate the possibility of
deformation (bending, torsion) between the foot contact surfaces of the unbalance
vibrator as a result of the occuring centrifugal forces. The unbalance vibrator is not a
load-bearing component!

Thre thread size of the fixing screws, of quality class 8.8, and the required tightening

retightened to the correct tightening torque.

The centrifugal weights of an unbalance vibrator must be set identically at both ATTENTION
sides. The setting can be read off with % - scales provided on the centrifugal
weights.

If a vibratory machine is driven by two unbalance vibrators, the centrifugal weights


ATTENTION
must on the two unbalance vibrators be set to the same %-value. With an unequal
setting, damaging transverse vibrations will occur on the vibratory machine.

If an unbalance vibrator is replaced, the uniformity of the setting of the centrifugal


weights of the two unbalance vibrators must be checked and if necessary
established before starting up.

7. Electrical connection
Electrical connection of unbalanced mass vibration generators should be carried out
only by authorised persons who have been suitably trained. When making the
electrical connection of the unbalanced mass vibration generator the (German) VDE
0100 and VDE 0113 regulations must be observed. If the unbalanced mass vibration
generator is to be exported the electrical regulations of the respective country are to
be observed.

For the JVA unbalanced mass vibration generator the regulations of the (German)
„Directive for Electrical Equipment in Potentially Explosive Areas (Elex V)” generally
apply. For installation of electrical equipment in areas endangered through potential
gas explosion “IEC 60070.14” applies and in areas endangered through potential
dust explosions “IEC 61421-1 and –2” are applicable.

If the unbalance vibrator is equipped with a PTC thermistor (130°), the


auxilliary line can be connected to a trigger device (trigger temperature 130°)
in order to protect the drive thermally, for example thermistor protective relay
for PTC thermistor – temperature sensor (Siemens 3 RN 1010-1CM00 control
voltage 230V AC).

Before electrically connecting the unbalanced mass vibration generator the existing
mains voltage and frequency should be compared with the values given on the
rating plate of the unbalanced mass vibration generator. Correct connection of the
terminals in the terminal box should be checked (see circuit diagram in the terminal
box).

For JV unbalanced mass vibration generators fluctuations in voltage of the power


supply of more than +/- 10% are not permissible.
For JVA unbalanced mass vibration generators voltage fluctuations of only +/- 5%
are permissible.
In order to guarantee a reliable start of the unbalanced mass vibration generator it ATTENTION
should only be switched on directly.

The unbalanced mass vibration generator must be connected only to a three-phase


supply network with a protective conductor. The protective conductor of the three-
phase supply network must be connected to the corresponding terminal provided in
the terminal box.

The unbalanced mass vibration generators are wired internally in such a way that
with the same connection of phases L1-L2-L3 to terminals U1-V1-W1 this gives the
same direction of rotation for all unbalanced mass vibration generators – from the
same viewpoint looking towards the cable entry.

If the drive of a vibrating machine consists of two unbalanced mass vibration


generators these should be connected in such a way that their direction of rotation is
opposed. To achieve this both unbalanced mass vibration generators must be
connected in the same order L1-L2-L3 ⇒ U1-V1-W1. The arrangement on the vibrating ATTENTION
machine from a viewpoint looking towards the protective cover and cable entries
must be mirror-inverted (see diagram on page 10).

Before starting up the vibrating machine the correct opposed direction of rotation of
the unbalanced mass vibration generators must be checked, as follows:

With the vibrating machine switched off and secured against unauthorised switching
on, one protective cover of each of the unbalanced mass vibration generators is to
be removed. Then when the unbalanced mass vibration generators are switched on
briefly (approx. 2 – 3 secs) the direction of rotation can be seen. This should be
counter-rotating.

Caution! Danger of injury through rotating unbalanced masses.

If the direction of rotation is not counter-rotating the poles of one of the two
unbalanced mass vibration generators must be reversed. With the unbalanced mass
vibration generators switched off and secured against unauthorised switching on, the
protective covers should then be refitted.

Check with the vibrating machine running. The direction of vibration – as seen in the
direction of conveyance – must be linear.

In exceptional cases (spiral conveyor, special machines) the unbalanced mass


vibration generators run in the same direction. For this the arrangement of the
unbalanced mass vibration generators on the machine – from a viewpoint looking
towards the protective cover and cable entries, and with the same electrical
connection – must be the same as in the following diagram.

For the connection a highly elastic, mechanically robust hose line is to be provided
as connecting line between the unbalanced mass vibration generator and the first
distribution box. This should have a temperature resistance of at least 90°C. The
minimum required nominal cross-section according to DIN 57100, part 523, and the
connection cross-section for guaranteeing reliable operation are given in the data
sheet of the unbalanced mass vibration generator.

In the terminal box the individual conductors should be led from the cable entry to
the terminal board over as short a distance as possible in order to avoid damage to
the conductors through vibration. The hose line should be secured against twisting
and pulling in the cable entry. At the same time care should be taken that the hose
line outside diameter is correct (for inside diameter of the cable gland see data
sheet).

For control of the vibration by means of a frequency converter a shielded cable is


required as connecting cable between the vibrator and frequency converter, in
accordance with the conditions of the EMC (German Electromagnetic Compatibility)
law. Vibrators of the type JV are suitable for connection under EMC conditions.

For connecting the required shielded cable the existing standard cable gland must ATTENTION
be removed by the customer and replaced by a suitable cable gland, e.g. type
SHVE.

Recommendations for suitable cable glands and sizes of shielded cable are given in
ATTENTION
the table „Connection Data”, in section 12. It should be noted that allocations of
diameters of cables (inside and outside diameter) and cable gland (sealing cone and
sleeve) are subject to narrow tolerances.

After connecting the supply cable the terminal box cover should be replaced. In
doing so care should be taken that the rubber seal fits correctly. The fixing screws
should be firmly tightened.

The supply cable of every unbalanced mass vibration generator must sag freely
ATTENTION
bewteen the first fixed point and the unbalanced mass vibration generator, to such
an extent that there is no tension of the cable in the starting and running down
phases. Its length should be calculated so that there is no self-movement. The
supply cable must not strike or rub against anything.

If two unbalanced mass vibration generators of one vibration machine are


ATTENTION
connected to the mains supply, the connection cables of both unbalanced mass
vibration generators must be connected to the same distribution box connection,
without a detachable connection (no individual plug contacts). This measure
prevents operation of only one of the unbalanced mass vibration generators of the
vibration machine.

If, contrary to this urgent recommendation, the two vibrators are connected to a
distribution box, each with a detachable plug connection, suitable protection of the
vibrating machine should be provided which prevents operation with only one
unbalanced mass vibration generator. The manufacturer has provided a protection
unit (cable fault relay) which should be installed for every unbalanced mass vibration
generator.

The unbalanced mass vibration generator is to be protected against unacceptable


heating up through overloading, non-starting, short-circuit or 2-phase running, by
means of the monitoring units (motor protection switch or bimetal relay with fuses). ATTENTION
The value for the starting current is given in the data sheet. Since unbalanced mass
vibration generators start up under difficult conditions (increased working load,
increased frictional losses at low temperatures in the cold state) it is recommended
that a motor protection switch with delayed tripping characteristic is used

If the unbalance vibrator is operated by a frequency converter the maximum speed ATTENTION
or the maximum frequency must not exceed the nominal speed given on the rating
plate. The frequency converter must be limited so that the frequency specified on the
rating plate cannot be exceeded. The parameter block of the frequency converter
must be switched on.

The unbalance vibrator is equipped with a PTC Thermistor, which can be connected
to the drive JV for temperature monitoring and must be connected with the drive
JVA.

JV / JVA 130 °C

The unbalance vibrator in combination with a d.c. injection brake in the ex-area must
be set so that the maximum current is not higher than the break-away starting
current of the drive (see rating plate). The braking time must be set so that the d.c.
injection brake is switched off approx. 1 sec. after machine standstill. In the case of
multi-engine operation (conveying trough, sieve machine, etc.) the stator windings
must be switched in series via the braking contactor for braking action.

The frequency converter and the d.c. injection brake must be set up in ex-free areas.

8. Setting the centrifugal force

8.1. Safety note

All setting operations on the unbalance vibrator must in principle only be carried out
at rest. Before starting this work, ensure that the unbalance vibrator cannot be
switched on accidentally or by unauthorized persons.

8.2. Setting instructions

The two protective covers of the unbalanced mass vibration generator should be
removed so that the centrifugal weights under these are easily accessible.

The set centrifugal force can be read off on a % scale which is fitted on the inner
centrifugal weights. The setting range is between 0% and 100%.

For setting each outer centrifugal weight (A) can be turned against the inner
centrifugal weight (B) after unscrewing the locking screw (C).

On both sides of the unbalanced mass vibration generator the centrifugal weights
should be set to the required value (which can be read off on the % scale). The set
values must be the same on both sides.

The clamping screws (C) of the centrifugal weights (A) must be tightened with a
torque as specified in the table below.

Before replacing the protective covers the set values of the centrfugal weights
should be rechecked to ensure that they are the same.

The protective covers are then replaced, and correct fitting of the rubber seals
checked. The fixing screws are hand tight, i.e. they should be tightened with the

9. Maintenance

9.1. Important notes

The unbalance vibrator must be regularly serviced. Inadequate maintenance can ATTENTION
lead to faults or damage with consequent downtimes and repair costs. Correct
maintenance ensures safety and reliability.

All maintenance operations on the unbalance vibrator must on principle only be


carried out when the unbalance vibrator is at rest. Before starting work, ensure that
the unbalance vibrator cannot be switched on accidentally or by unauthorized
persons.

9.2. Lubrication

The unbalance vibrator is lubricated in the works with the grease specified in the
data sheet.

Unbalance vibrators of type JV/JVA are designed for regreasing; lubricating nipples
are provided on the bearing end plates for this purpose.

Regreasing should as far as possible be carried out while the unbalance vibrator is
still at its operating temperature; after which the vibrator should be started up again
and run for about a further 30 minutes. This procedure is particularly advisable when
regreasing is carried out at ambient temperatures below 0° C

Regreasing should if possible only be carried out with the grease specified in the ATTENTION
data sheet; taking into account item 9.2.13, other greases may, however, also be
used according to the following list.

A lithium complex saponified grease must be used for unbalanced mass vibration
generators. If special greases are used for special application conditions
relubricating must be carried out only with the same grease type.

Regreasing intervals and grease quantities are given in the data sheet. Regreasing
should be carried out at least once yearly.

The regreasing intervals given in the data sheet are based on a bearing bracket
surface temperature of up to 85°C.

If this temperature is exceeded by up to 15°C in each case the regreasing interval is


halved.

For the first regreasing after commissioning, double the grease quantity of that given
in the data sheet should be used.

If longer standstill times are planned (more than 4 – 5 months) regreasing should be
carried out before shutting down.

When using an unbalanaced mass vibration generator which has been out of
operation for a long time (standby unbalanced mass vibration generator) regreasing
should be carried out shortly after starting up.

Roller bearings which have been cleaned or replaced should be greased with the
grease quantity given in the data sheet.

9.3. Other maintenance / inspection operations

After the first 50 operating hours the fixing screws must be retightened with the ATTENTION
tightening torque specified in the data sheet. The fixing screws of the protective
covers and of the terminal box cover must also be retightened.

The connecting cable must be examined for wear and breakages regularly and
replaced if necessary.

Faulty operation in the form of changed noise development can be corrected with
the fault tracing chart below.

11. Special designs

11.1 PTC resistor as additional protection

Unbalanced mass vibration generators of type JV/JVA can be protected with a PTC
resistor (thermal motor protection) against unacceptable temperature increase and
destruction of the winding in case of a fault through overloaoding, increased ambient
temperature, intermittent operation, high switching frequency and phase failure.

The nominal responding temperature (NRT) of the PTC resistor should be fixed
according to the respective prevailing operating conditions

Basically unbalanced mass vibration generators of type JV/JVA in the TMS design
are provided with 130°C NRT PTC resistors.

11.2 Pole reversing unbalance vibrator

Pole-changeable unbalanced mass vibration generators are constructed with a


Dahlander (pole-changing) circuit or with two separate windings. They are designed
for continuous operation S1 according to VDE 0530, and can be used for both
directions of rotation.

Pole changing may be carried out only in one direction of rotation or with opposed
direction of rotation from a standstill.

Starting up is guaranteed for all speeds at the rated voltage. Details given in the data
sheet should be observed.

The CE mark refers to Directive 72/73/EEC (93/68) on low voltage
and to [German] legislation on electromagnetic compatibility (EEC
§5.2 9/92).

JB brake units are designed in accordance with standard IEC 947-4-2


for category B public mains and are within the published electro-
magnetic compatibility (EMC) limits.

The limits for emissions under the European standard do not preclude
interference with receivers within 10 m.

Installation of JB brake units must be carried out by staff trained in


EMC.

The JB brake unit meets the requirements of the following standards


or equivalent documents:

4 PREFACE
The information contained in this manual refers exclusively to JB
brake units.

It is essential that you read this manual before installation and


commissioning.

The limits specified in the technical data must be observed when


using the brake unit.

The guarantee for manufacturers' drives/machinery does not cover


defects caused by misuse or incorrect use of the brake unit.

The manual is divided into individual sections in accordance with the


table of contents.

Section 1 "Electrical Safety" and Section 2 "Notes on EMC legislation"


must be read before working with the brake unit.

It is essential that the user familiarieses himself with the manual


before using the drive/equipment or before carrying out adjustment
work specific to the operations.

Please contact the manufacturer directly if you have any questions


about the JB brake unit.

5 PURPOSE
JB brake units are intended to brake manufacturers' unbalanced
motors or three-phase motors used in conjunction with vibrating
machineries.

In conjunction with an existing motor control system, or one to be


installed separately, the JB brake unit is used to shorten the coasting
period of the machine after it is switched off. Generally, machines with
one or two drives can be braked. More than two drives are possible in
special cases.

By virtue of its design, vibrating machinery can generate very high,


undesirable vibrations if motor coasting is unbraked, when passing the
transient frequency. When a JB brake unit is used, the motors can be
braked to a standstill quickly and effectively, so that the undesirable
frequencies are either strongly attenuated, or do not occur at all.

6 OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The JB brake unit operates fully electronically. A thyristor in a phase
controlled system generates an adjustable direct current in conjunction
with the electronic control logic. The control logic ensures that the
direct current does not reach the stator, through a braking contactor,
until the motor has been switched off. Said direct current creates a
static magnetic field, which counters the rotary movement of the rotor.
Automatic detection of standstill ends the braking process.

Stator windings are connected in series through the braking contactor,


if more than one motor is to be braked (see connection diagram in the
appendix).

Operating sequence:
(One motor application; on the basis of the connection diagram in the appendix):

If the brake unit is live from the mains, the LED "P" (mains) will light.
Contact 3/4 is broken and n2/n4 made. When the motor starts,
contactor K2 is locked. The brake unit receives the "motor on" signal
from the motor contactor through connection 6/7. LED "M" (motor
on) thus also lights. Contact n2/n4 (= restart lockout) breaks
simultaneously.

When the motor stops, contactor K2 drops out. The contact at 6/7
breaks. LED "M" goes out. After a short delay, contact 3/4 closes
and LED "B" (braking on) lights. Contactor K1 picks up and the
braking current flows through the motor winding, initiating braking.
LED "S" (standstill display) lights during the braking process until the
motor comes to a standstill. The braking process will be ended,
unless the braking time has been extended with trimming
potentiometer "T". Contact 3/4 breaks, contactor K1 drops out and
LED "B" goes out. Contact n2/n4 is then made again. Only now is it
possible to restart the motor.

8.3 ADJUSTMENT ELEMENTS

IMPORTANT NOTE:

! Unauthorised resetting of the adjustment elements can


cause malfunctions in the brake unit.
Trimming potentiometers:
Two trimming potentiometers are mounted on the control board.
Operation of the trimming potentiometers:
I: Setting the brake current IBr
Extreme anti-clockwise setting: minimum brake current
Extreme clockwise setting: maximum brake current
T : Setting the subsequent braking time
Extreme anti-clockwise setting: no subsequent braking time
Extreme clockwise setting: approximately 20 seconds
subsequent braking time

8.4 MOTOR CONTROL SYSTEM AND BRAKE UNIT


The JB brake unit must be used in conjunction with an existing or
newly built motor control system. Suitable connection diagrams for
machines with one or two motors may be found in the appendix.
The brake unit requires only a two-phase mains connection and must
be fused, as stated in the appendix. The cables to terminals X2.8/a/b
must have dimensions appropriate to the brake unit fuse.
The requisite braking contactor must have the same capacity as the
motor contactor. During switching the braking contactor on and off no
current passes through the main contacts.
In the case of machines with two or more drives, each
motor must be connected to the mains through its own
! motor contactor. Failure to observe this requirement will
result in short-circuiting of the brake unit.
Do not open the brake contactor during braking! Do not
operate the brake contactor by hand! Failure to observe
this requirement can destroy the brake contactor and the
brake unit.
Terminal X1.n1 is the measurement input for detecting standstill. The
cable must be protected from the auxiliary switch of the brake
contactor as shown in the connection diagram.

Local requirements for earthing and cables must be observed.

8.5 OVERHEATING PROTECTION (Only JB26/... JB40/... JB52/...)


These units have additional overheating protection. Should the heat
sink become too hot due to over-frequent braking, LED "O" will flash.
Switching on the motor will then be prevented, as contact n2/n4 will
remain broken. LED "O" will go out when sufficient cooling has taken
place. The motor can then be restarted.

9 COMMISSIONING

9.1 CHECKS BEFORE SWITCHING ON THE MAINS VOLTAGE


The JB brake unit is supplied unadjusted ex works, i.e. the trimming
potentiometers T (time) and I (current) are set to their minimum (fully
anti-clockwise). The unit must first be set to the relevant vibrating
plant, as described below.
Please check the following points before switching on the mains
voltage:
1. The brake unit must be used in conjunction with the relevant
vibrating machine.
2. The details on the brake unit rating plate must match those
on the motor. The nominal motor current (or its aggregate, in
the case of several motors) must be ≤ IN [A] (Entry under "A"
on the rating plate).
3. The mains voltage must be within the voltage range
specified on the rating plate (entry under "V" on the rating
plate).
4. The mains must be connected to terminals a/8.
5. The brake unit must be earthed through the PE terminal.
6. Only potential free "make" contacts may be connected to
terminals 6/7.
7. The output cable of the brake unit must be connected to
terminals a/b. The motor(s) must be connected correctly.
8. No short circuits or short circuits to earth may be present.
9. Measures must be taken to ensure compatibility with EMC
legislation (see Section 2).
10. The braking contactor K1 and the motor contactor K2 (and
K3) must be electrically interlocked! See connection diagram
in the appendix.

9.2 INTERLOCKING TEST WITHOUT BRAKING CURRENT


• Remove the motor fuses or switch off the motor protective switch.
• Turn trimming potentiometer "T" to its maximum (clockwise).
• Turn trimming potentiometer "I" to its minimum (anti-clockwise).
The mains voltage may now be switched on. LED "P" must light.
A dangerously high voltage will now be present at the JB
brake unit.

The braking and motor contactors must never be active


at the same time!
!
• Operate motor contactor K2 (or K3) by hand: LED "M" must light.
• Release motor contactor K2 (or K3): LED "M" will go out. LED "B"
must light and braking contactor K1 must pick up.
• Operate contactor K2 (or K3) by hand while LED "B" is alight.
Braking contactor K1 must drop out.

• Release contactor K2 (or K3). K1 will pick up again. After the


braking time (approximately 20 seconds) has elapsed, LED "B" will
go out and braking contactor K1 will drop out.
• This ends the interlocking test.
• Switch off the mains voltage.

9.3 SETTING THE BRAKING CURRENT IBr


It must be ensured that the braking and motor contactors cannot be
active at the same time (see 9.2, Interlocking Test).
A clamp-ammeter with t.r.m.s. response capability is required to set
the braking current. Connect this meter to the line which is connected
to terminal X2.b of the braking unit.
With JB26/..., JB40/..., and JB52/... units the adjustment can be a-
chieved by means of the bar display (see below).

• The mains voltage must be switched off.


• Insert the motor fuses or switch on the motor protective switch(es).
• Set trimming potentiometer "T" to its ¼ (9 o'clock) position by
turning it anti-clockwise.
• Set trimming potentiometer "I" to its minimum (fully anti-clockwise).
• Switch on the mains power.

A dangerously high voltage will now be present at the JB


! brake unit.

• Start the motor and let it warm up. LEDs "P" and "M" must light.
• Switch off the motor. LED "M" will go out. LED "B" will light. The
braking contactor will pick up. Braking has commenced.
• Increase the braking current from zero until the motor is distinctly
braked, by turning trimming potentiometer "I" slowly in a clockwise
direction. Ensure that the maximum braking current of the brake
unit is not exceeded by observing the readings on the ammeter.
(With JB26/..., JB40/..., JB52/... units:
The braking current can be read off the bar display on the control
board. 1 bar = 10% of the maximum braking current IBr).
Note: A good braking effect can usually be obtained at the ½ (12
o'clock) position of trimming potentiometer "I".
• LED "S" (standstill monitoring) will light while the braking current is
flowing and the motor is still turning. LED "S" will go out at
approximately 10% of the nominal speed. The braking process
ends as soon as LED "S" goes out and any subsequent braking
time set with trimming potentiometer "T" (up to 20 seconds) has
elapsed. LED "B" will go out and the braking contactor will drop out.
Adjustment of the braking current is now completed.

10 MAINTENANCE
The JB brake unit is largely maintenance free.
However, under very dusty conditions, regular cleaning is essential.

Only with the brake unit Type JB16/500E000 a line reactor must be inserted into
the inlet to clamp „8”. This line reactor is delivered loose.
With the types JB26, 40, 52 the line reactor is already built in the unit.

4 PRELIMINARY REMARKS
The information given in these instructions is intended only for the
CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit.
It is essential that you read these instructions before installation and
commissioning.
When using the CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit the limit
values given in the technical data must be observed.
The guarantee of the manufacturer for drives / machines does not
extend to deficiencies caused through unauthorised use or incorrect
use of the machine monitoring unit.
The instructions are divided into individual sections as given in the
contents.
Before working with the CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit
section 1 „Electrical Safety“ and section 2 „Instructions regarding
EMVG law“ must be read.
Before using the drive / machine, or before carrying out specific
operational adjustments, it is essential that the user makes himself
familiar with the contents of these instructions.
If you have any queries concerning the CONTISEN2 machine
monitoring unit please contact Jöst directly.
The manufacturer reserves the right to carry out product changes

5 APPLICATION PURPOSE
The CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit is used for operational
control of vibration installations.
The CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit consists of components
JSEN1,2,3 or ..HP (vibration sensor), JMWW-I/U (measuring value
transformer) and EASY (evaluation unit) .
Apart from pure „machine running“ signalling, an independent
adjustable threshold value can be interrogated for max. monitoring
of the amplitude of vibration.

Machines and drives with amplitudes of up to 20 mm can be


monitored. The application limits are given in the technical data.

6 MODE OF OPERATION
The EASY evaluation unit works together with the vibration sensor
JSEN1,2,3 or ..HP as the CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit.

In this system the sensor JSEN1,2,3 or ..HP is the measuring


transformer which records the acceleration values and vibration
frequency of the machine. The measuring signal is filtered in the
sensor, amplified and transformed into a sign-independent signal.
From here it is passed to the measuring value transformer JMWW-
I/U as a 0-20 mA signal via a 3-core shielded cable, which
transforms the signal from 0-20 mA into 0-10V and passes this to
the EASY evaluation unit.

The EASY evaluation unit, which is controlled by a programme,


processes and calculates the measuring signal according to a fixed
programme (company property). The threshold levels to be
monitored can be adjusted by means of the LCD display.
The signals „Operation“ and the threshold value generated from the
evaluation unit are lead through as floating relay contacts. The LCD
display gives constant information on the setting of the relay
contacts.
At the same time as switching on the machine, the operating
voltage of the channel (I1 or i2) of the machine monitoring unit
should be switched on. Start-up bridging for the signal “Operation” is
then active for approx. 8 secs.
The EASY evaluation unit can monitor 2 machines simultaneously
(channel 1 and channel 2) or, for example, on the one hand
machine run monitoring and at the same time drive failure of a
machine with 2 JV … unbalance vibrators.

7 INSTALLATION

7.1 INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION


Fitting the sensor:
This should be fitted in proximity to the machine inlet (e.g. side wall), or on
supports or mounting holes provided on the machine. The sensor should be fitted
in such a way that the arrow on the cover points in the direction of vibration of
the conveyer. The cable outlet is then positioned at right angles to the direction
of vibration. An exception to this is sensor JSEN 2 or 3 HP, which is fitted with a
90° displacement to the direction of vibration, so that transverse vibration can be
recognised.
The flexible connection wire should be lead to a stationary non-vibrating terminal
box without any wire loops or bends. The wire may have to be shortened. In
doing this leave the wire long enough so that it cannot break during operation of
the machine.
The permissible ambient temperature given in the technical data should be
observed.

Installation of the EASY evaluation unit and measuring value


transformer JMWW-I/U:
The evaluation unit and measuring value transformer should be
installed in a casing or a switch cabinet. Fixing is provided for 35
mm standard rails.
Installation in the immediate vicinity of power
electronics equipment is not permitted. Signalling
! cables should be laid separately to power cables.

At least 20 mm free space should be left above and below the unit.
The permissible ambient temperature given in the technical data is
to be observed.

7.2 CONNECTIONS

Connectable cable cross-section to the terminals of EASY: 1.5 mm .
The connection arrangement of EASY and connection to the
vibration sensor JSEN1,2,3 or ..HP are given in the terminal
connection diagram in the appendix or in the leaflet included with
the unit.

8 COMMISSIONING

8.1 MEASURES BEFORE SWITCHING ON

The machine monitoring unit has not been set to a definite vibration
machine before leaving the works. Thus balancing must be carried
out during commissioning.
Lethal external voltage may still be applied to the
relay terminals of the EASY even when the unit is
switched off. Ensure that the equipment is dead.

Before switching on the machine monitoring unit please check the


following points:
1. The machine monitoring unit must be combined with the
associated vibration machine.
2. The vibration sensor JSEN1,2,3 or ..HP must be fitted and
connected correctly.
3. The information on operating voltage, vibration frequency,
acceleration and temperature range given in the technical
data must be observed.
4. The installation should be checked for correct wiring (no
interchanged wires, short-circuits).
5. Measures for observing the EMVG law must be carried out
(see section 2).
6. The operating voltage (21...28 VDC) must be connected to
the terminals + 24V and 0V of the EASY.
7. The connection line to the sensor must be connected to the
EASY on terminals 17 or 18 via the measuring value
transformer.

8.2 SWITCHING ON
Bevor you switch on the machine monitoring unit the points
described under 8.1 must have been carried out.
The CONTISEN2 machine monitoring unit (I1 or I2) should be
switched on at the same time as switching on the machine (for
switching on the operating voltage an auxiliary contact of the motor
main contactor can, for example, be used.
Switch on machine and machine monitoring unit.
A lethal external voltage may now still be applied to
the relay terminals of the EASY unit.

The LCD display on Q1 or Q3 (machine running) lights up. Relay


contact Q1 or Q3 closes at least for the time of start-up bridging (8
secs). If the machine remains switched on and if the vibration
amplitude exceeds the required fixed value for the operating signal
Q1 or Q3, the LCD display Q1 or Q3 remains switched on. Otherwise
the LCD display is extinguished, and relay contact Q1 or Q3 opens.
The state of the limit value signals Q2 or Q4 depends on the
respective setting of the threshold value level.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS:
Uncontrolled adjustment of the setting elements can
! lead to malfunctioning of the unit.
Before carrying out changes in settings, the following
points must be read carefully:
The EASY
evaluation unit has 4 menu keys and 4 P-keys
(cursor keys) for setting the threshold values.
Arrangement of the keys is given in the photo
above.

Setting of threshold values of channel 1 and 2:

The threshold values operation and fault (channel ½) can be set


separately, each via 2 analogue values between 0 and 9.9 volts.

A1 = Operation/min channel 1, works setting = 0.1


A2 = Fault/max channel 1, works setting = 4.5
A3 = Operation/min channel 2, works setting = 0.1
A4 = Fault/max channel 1, works setting = 4.5

Settings must be carried out as follows:


E.g. A1 = Operation/min channel 1, works setting = 0.1

1. Switch on machine and operate at minimum power (if minimum


operation is possible).
2. Operate OK key – the display programme flashes.
3. Operate P-key ∧ or ∨, the display T1 = Timer 1 flashes.
4. Operate P-key ∧, until display A1 = analogue value 1 flashes.
5. The actual value of the vibration amplification sensor is shown
in the centre, as 0 – 10 volt value, in 0.1 volt steps.
6. Operate P-key <, the cursor flashes on the 10-digit.
7. Operate P-key ∧ or ∨ to change the setting.
8. Operate P-key >, the cursor flashes on the 1-digit.
9. Operate P-key ∧ or ∨ to change the setting.
10. By operating the OK key the new value is adopted and the
cursor flashes on A1.
11. Finally operate the ESC key twice and the unit returns to the
main display.

For the other settings of the analogue values A2, A3 and A4, the
same procedure applies as described above, whereby when
balancing the analogue values A2 and A4 the machine must be
operated with maximum power.

Special function – language changeover:

1. Operate keys DEL and ALT simultaneously – the display


password flashes.
2. Operate PO-key ∧ or ∨, until display GB D F E I flashes.
3. Operate OK key – the language English flashes.
4. Operate P-key ∧ or ∨, the display changes to the possible
languages.
5. Set to the required language and operate OK key – the display
GB D F E I flashes.
6. Finally operate the ESC key and the unit returns to the main
display.

8.3.3 Mode of functioning of relay contacts:

The EASY evaluation unit has 4 relays with floating, normally open
(no) contacts (2 operating contacts and 2 fault contacts).

If inductive loads are to be switched with these relays it


! is essential that suitable arc suppressing elements are
fitted (on the inductive load).

9 MAINTENANCE
The unit is practically maintenance-free.
However, if there is a lot of dust regular cleaning is essential.

10 FAULT FINDING
Before reporting faults to our service department please record the
following information:
− Type designation of the unit (see type plate)
− No. of unit (see type plate)
− Operating voltage (measured)
− Sensor signal (in mA with stationary / running machine)
− Detectable faults

• The lining can have the following functions: -wear protection of the machine

- prevention of product caking on machine -noise protection


- protection of the product against darnage

• Linings can be made as follows:

- screwed or clamped-in sheet metal


- screwed, clamped-in or glued-in plastic or rubber panels -screwed or glued-
in oxide ceramic or fussion-cast basalt panels (See chapter 14 "Spare
parts").

• The condition of the lining and its attachment must be checked regularly.
Damaged parts must be replaced if necessary. (See chapter 10
"Maintenance"). Operation with worn linings will darnage the machine!

• Only genuine original fixing elements must be used for fixing. Screwed
connections must be tightened with the specified torques. (See chapter 7
"Assembly").

• It must be ensured that the lining is in contact with its base over its complete
surface. Any dirt adhering to the inside of the machine must be removed. If
linings are screwed or clamped in, these surfaces may have to be cleaned from
rust and primed. If linings are glued in, these surfaces must be metallically
bright before applying the adhesive. Note instructions for using the adhesive -
see leaflet in packaging or instructions on the tin.
