INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY

This study is the re-analysis of the qualitative data gathered with respect to
Godrej Group of industries Ltd, which have global significant interests in
consumer goods, Real estate, agriculture, chemicals, and financial services
industry headquartered in INDIA ( Maharashtra ).

Godrej Group of industries is 1 of the most actively traded companies in the


stock market, it has further strengthened its global network and are now one of
the biggest producer of consumer products in the 18 countries.

This analysis can also gives a brief overview of the consumer goods, real
estate, agriculture, chemicals and financial services of godrej group of industries
limited.

GODREJ INDUSTRIES LIMITED

HISTORY:

 FOUNDER : Ardeshir Godrej


 FOUNDED IN : 1897
 Godrej consumers products is the wing of the renowned godrej group
which was initiated in year 1897 by Ardeshir and pirojsha Godrej.
Initially, Godrej group was locks manufacturing company, but now it is
one of the biggest diversified commercial firms in India and the
strongest reliable brand.
 The company also takes pride for being the topper to manufacture soaps
from vegetable oil. Highly appreciated on its product quality, first class
after sales service, Godrej consumer products is truly the leaders in its
own category.
 Ardeshir brother pirojsha laid foundations for a throbbing enterprise at a
sprawling industrial garden township outside Mumbai. It was here that
the godrej industry vision took concrete shape.

INTRODUCTION:

Godrej Group is one of the largest Industry based in Mumbai, India, involved in
various industries that include appliances , machine tools, furniture, health care,
interior solutions, office equipment, food processing, security and industrial
solutions, construction and information technology. Godrej products include
security systems and safes, type writers and word processors, rocket launchers,
refrigerators and furniture, outsourcing services, machine tools and process
equipment, cosmetics and detergents, engineering work stations, medical
diagnostics and Aerospace equipment and chemical, mosquito repellents, car

perfumes, agri products, material handling euipments like forklift Trucks,
stackers, Tyre handlers, sweeping machines etc.

Traditionally, Vikhroli a suburb to northest of the Mumbai has been Godrej’s


manufacturing base, but by increasing the groups have been moved significant
production facilities away from Mumbai. The godrej group also owns the vast
land in Vikhroli which is occupying 3500 acres of the land on the both sides of
the Vikhroli section of the LBS marg. That makes the godrej group the largest
private land owner in the Mumbai by far such vast land can, in theory, be used
to create at least 1500 acres of the residential floor space, which at the very
modest rates (Rs.10000/sqft), can be sold for USD 16 billion .Thus the godrej
group is placing on an invisible cashpile that is envy of the other Indian
conglomerates.

 1897-Godrej & Boyce Mfg. company Limited was established 1918-
Godrej soaps limited was incorporated.
 1971-Godrej agrovet ltd began as a animal feeds division of Godrej
soaps.
 1974-Godrej properties ltd, another subsidiary, was established.
 1991-foods business started and Godrej Agrovet ltd was started.
 1994 -Transelektra domestic products was acquired.
 1995 -Transelektra forged a strategic alliance with the Sara lee USA
 1999 -Transelektra was named Godrej sara Lee Ltd.
 2001-Godrej Consumer Products was formed as the result of the
demerger of godrej soaps Ltd. Godrej soaps was renamed as Godrej
Industries ltd.
 2002-Godrej Tea ltd was set up in 2002.
 2003-Godrej entered the BPO Solutions & Services space with Godrej
global solutions ltd.

 2004- Godrej Haricare ltd was set up to provide a safe healthy
environment to the customers by providing the professional pest
management services.
 2006 -The foods business was merged with the Godrej tea and was
renamed as Godrej beverages & foods ltd.
 2007-Godrej beverages & food ltd formed a J V with the Hershey
company of north America and the company was renamed as Godrej
Hershey foods & beverages ltd.
 2008-Godrej re launched itself with a new colourful logo and fresh
identity music.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE COUNTRY:

Godrej has a philanthropic vision that has built schools, residential complex ,
and a dispensaries for their employees. Trusts established by the Godrej
continue to invest in the education, healthcare.

Godrej is the supporter of the world wildlife fund in India, it has developed a
greenery business campus in the Vikhroli township of Mumbai (India), which
includes 200 acres of mangrove forest and a school for children of Godrej
company employees. 25% percent of the shares of the Godrej holding company
are held in trusts that include the pirojsha godrej foundation, the soonbai
pirojsha Godrej foundation and the Godrej memorial trust.

Through these trusts the Godrej group supports healthcare, education and
environmental substainability that initiatives such has the mangroves, teach for
India, WWF, Smile train and the Godrej memorial hospital . There are 28000 people
working for Godrej ind. They also provide jobs, strengthening the economic health to
country.

INTRODUCTION:

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd is one of the biggest fast moving consumer
goods company in India. GCPL company has five product segments such as
soaps, household Insecticides, hair colors, liquid detergents and air freshners.
The GCPL company has manufacturing facilities at Malanpur in Madhya
Pradesh, Baddi in himachal Pradesh, Guwahati in Assam and Namchi in
Sikkim. The GCPL company has established a strong hold in International
presence through the acquisitions over the years. GCPL company is one of the
largest household insecticide and hair care company in emerging markets. In
household insecticides, it is the leader in India and the largest company in
Indonesia.

GCPL is leader in serving the hair care products for women of African
country, the number one player in hair color in India and saharan Africa, and
among the leading players in the latin America. GCPL is in number two soaps
in the India. GCPL is number one player in air freshners and wet tissues in the
Indonesia.

The GCPL company is one of the largest producer of toilet soaps in the
country with leading brands such as Cinthol and godrej No 1. Fairglow ,India’s
first fairness soap created the marketing history as one of the most successful
innovative vision . The company is also the leading company in the hair color
category in India.

Court of judicature, Mumbai, on 14 march 2001.
 Godrej consumer products ltd was started on November 29, 2000 as a
public company and was promoted by Godrej & Boyce manufacturing
company.
 The liabilities and Assets pertaining to the consumer products business of
Godrej soaps ltd together with the factories present at Malanpur along
with the marketing, selling, distribution and the related facilities have
been transferred to the company with the effect from April 1, 2001.
 During the year 2002 to 03, the company launched its Godrej No.1
ayurvedic soap and Godrej fair glow saffron in the southern markets of
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

SWOT Analysis of the company:


Strengths:

 GCPL is one of the popular FMCG business with a large variety of


goods.
 Godrej products are used by over 600 million people every day.The
brand range of business means that it serves several differet customers.
 GCPL has a very good competitive advantage in many categories. GCPL
is the industry pioneer in the group of hair colours,insecticides,soaps,and
liquid detergents.GCPL appeats to be a leading company in the soap
group.
 GCPL have a separate Research and Development Department.GCPL is
investing lot of money on Research and Development of new products.
 GCPL has the strong distribution network of 141 stockists,3170 sub
stockists and 34 C&F Agents.Company has coverage of 6.5 lakh retailers
in whole India.The Sales team of Godrej Consumer Products ltd has
about 250 employees over the country.

Weaknesses:

 One of the major problems faced by GCPL as a brand is increase in the


cost of transport,labour and the other distribution and operating costs of
brand over years.
That naturally affects the pricing of the products.
 A lot of competition means high and more price discounts and therefore
lower margins result in the price struggle. This is the main overall
problem in the market for consumer products.
 GCPL is spending lot of money on technology to increase efficiency
across the world.Investing into techonlogies now is not a good decition
for the company.
 The rural presentation of GCPL is much less due to the lack of awareness
of the importance of the consumer products in rural areas and also to the
co-oparatively high price of products compared to the rural products.

Opprotunities:

 GCPL joined the worldwide marketplace. GCPL can step global markets
of developed and developing countries to increase GCPL presence and
generate moreand more revenue.
 GCPL is increasing its growth by acquiring local and global companies.
This helps the company’s business presentation.
 Online Marketing and Social Media Marketing is creating a very good
opportunities for the company growth.
 With a rise in buying the power and improving lifestyle, the personal
care sector is projected to develop. There would be a good effect on the
personal care industry due to the increase in demand for personal care
goods.

Threats :

 GCPL security is impaired by the precence of counterfeit goods. In the


Indian market, spurious goods impact a large portion in revenue.
 Competition in its field is so high that brands defend their core strength
and attack the weakness of the competitors. GCPL is also facing intensive
competition from the other brands.
 Changing the prices by competitors can be a major threat to the company
and can directly or indirectly it affect’s the business of GCPL.
 The Government rules and regulations can be one of the major threat and
can directly or indirectly affect the business of GCPL.
 Increases in the minimum wages and prices of imported products in
China and argentina could be serious threat for GCPL.

company, that manufactures personal care and household products in
India, Asia,Africa,and Sri Lanka and in more other countries.Godrej
Consumer Products Ltd was founded in the tear 1897 and is
headquartered in Mumbai,India.
 GODREJ CONSUMER’S Working Capital is the measure of company’s
efficiency and the operating liquidity. The working capital is usually
calculated by subtracting the Present Liabilities from Current assets. It is
an important indicator of the firm ability to continue its normal operations
without the additional debt obligations of the company.

Volume of Sales :

 Godrej consumer products Ltd (GCPL) reported a 59.13 percent growth


in its consolidated net profit to Rs.365.84 cr fot the fourth quarter at the
end of the March 2021.
 GCPL saw a strong double digit sales increase in personal care and home
care categories.
 Home care was led by personal products, wash and hygine products.
 Indonesia constant products sales growth remained at flat.
 Growth rate continued in Africa, U.S. and Middle East countries.

 GCPL which entered the professional hair care market is thinking on


haiving a 25 percent market share in the hair care market next year.
 Sources said that a brand from the GCPL stable current has a miniscule
market share and the space is dominated by the Loreal which has a near
70 percent market share in the salon market.

Sales Turnover :

 The GCPL net sales during the Jan-Mar 2021 rise by 26.87 percent to
Rs.2,705.69cr,against Rs.2,132.69 cr in the year ago period.
 GCPL’S sales grew by 27 percent and Ebitda rise by 21 percent in FY20.
 They saw continues strong growth movement in the ‘household
insecticides’ and ‘hygiene’ categories in 2020 and 2021 years.
 Shares of GCPL company settled at Rs.715.95 apiece on the BSE, up
0.92 percent from the previous close.

company based in Mumbai, India. GCPL’S products includes hair colourants,
soap,toiletries, and liquid detergents. GCPL is one of the largest producer of
consumer products in 18 countries.GCPL are the Leader in serving products in
like soaps and hair colourants in India,Africa and Indonesia.
