Assignment 16.2:

At the beginning of this course I felt as if I had a good understanding of what digital

media entailed and its benefits within an instruction setting. Once the class began and I started to

work through the material I realized how much more complex digital media was and all the

different techniques and methods that went into using digital media for instruction. I think that is

a big misconception about digital media is it isn’t just flopping media into the instruction it is

strategically placing the media that is strategically designed in order to benefit your learners.

The main thing that I think I fell in love with in this course is how diverse digital media is

and how many different routes you can take as an instructor when incorporating it into your

instruction with, images, audio, text, videos, or a mixture of all of them. I believe that having the

ability to be diverse in your instruction and the ability to stimulate your learners mind in a

multiple of avenues is extremely beneficial for the student’s retention rates and will help them

learn the material overall better. In my final presentation I tried to incorporate different aspects

of digital media with text and images on screen as well as audio to hit on top of that, and to add

more effects to the presentation I added two videos that reiterate my instruction. I believe that
doing this only helps the students and keeps the cognitive load for them down which in return

boost the retention rate.

A transformation or “ah ha” moment for me that occurred during this course was around

the time we were putting together a storyboard with narration and Gagne’s 9 events incorporated

as well. Once having to add the narration aspect and identify which stage each slide had or

played that role for me was the moment where my perspective of just doing assignments turned

into physically creating the instruction inside my head and what it would actually sound like as

well as how I would execute each of these tasks within my final presentation. I am very thankful

for that moment because I believe it set me up for the best possible situation on this final project.

Finally, I really enjoyed this course and felt like I learned a ton about digital media and how to

incorporate it into instruction, thank you for a great summer session!
