Targeting Penalty Rules

▪ The targeting rule defines ‘targeting as a


player taking aim at an opponent for
purposes of attacking with forcible
contact that goes beyond making a legal
tackle or a legal block or playing the ball.

▪ The targeting rule bans players from


making forcible contact with another
player with the crown of the helmet.

▪ The targeting rule bans players from


making forcible contact with the head or
neck region of a defenseless player.
