Perception and Self

1. What do you think has most impacted your perception of others? Think about
your culture, family, and social influences. Based on what you have learned
about perception of others, choose one concept you plan to improve on moving
forward? (impression management; cognitive complexity; attribution error; etc
from Chapter 2.2)

Answer: Growing up, I was told all throughout school to stay to yourself and to
stay out of other people’s business. Let’s say someone is starting a fight with
someone else, then I’m not going to get in the middle and they situation can
continue. I’m not going to risk getting in trouble trying to break a fight up.

Another thing society expects/teaches you to do is give entitled people respect,

now if you are in a rich family and still want to work to get your own money, I will
respect you but if you look down on people and expect everything from everyone,
I won’t be nice to you at all, and won’t respect you.

Respect is Earned, not given.

2. What do you think has most impacted your perception of self and/or self-
presentation? Think about your culture, family, and social influences. Based on
what you have learned about perception of self, choose one concept you plan to
improve on moving forward? (ethical communication; influences on self
perception; self-presentation; self-efficacy; etc. from Chapter 2.3)

Answer:  as a woman, men have always looked down on us, especially when it
comes to us wanting same to pay as them. I agree and disagree with this. I agree
and think that the hard-working women deserve the same pay; and disagree
because some women would let it get to their head and think that they have the
power or authority over others, just like some men do.
