Selective mutism

Selective mutism is a severe anxiety disorder where a person is unable to speak in certain
social situations, such as with classmates at school or to relatives they do not see very often.

However, people with selective mutism are able to speak freely to certain people, such as close
family and friends, when nobody else is around to trigger the freeze response.

Symptoms
nervous, uneasy or socially awkward
rude, disinterested or sulky
clingy
shy and withdrawn
stiff, tense or poorly co-ordinated
stubborn or aggressive, having temper tantrums when they get home from school, or getting
angry when questioned by parents

Substance or Medication-induced Anxiety Disorder

This disorder is diagnosed when panic attacks or other anxiety symptoms are brought on by use
of or withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs, taking medications or exposure to heavy metals or
toxic substances.

Anxiety Disorder Due To Another Medical Condition

When a person suffers from anxiety disorder due to another medical condition, the presence of
that medical condition leads directly to the anxiety experienced. The anxiety is the predominant
feature and may take the form of panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive behavior, or generalized
