My name is Peyten Galloway, and I am a senior at Humboldt High School.

I am working toward

getting my Associates of General Studies by attending the Fort Scott Community College while working

on my certification in the Manicure program. My career goal is to become a licensed nail technician.

Within this career, I plan to help people feel more confident in themselves and express who they are; nails

are one way to achieve that goal.

I have always loved the feeling of getting my nails done; it made me feel so put together. I took a

lot of interest in how manicures were done and started watching videos to learn. I soon began exploring

the career more and bought my own supplies before I began practicing the skills I learned on my family

and myself to get better. Now my friends let me do their nails regularly and this is something I want to

continue to do.

As a high school student, I am active in journalism, cross country, and track. I have remained

active in these activities while also working two jobs and maintaining a 3.1 GPA. I am the Editor-In-

Chief for The Cub Tracks newspaper. As a part of that team, I have competed and placed in regional, state

and national competitions, including placing second at the National Scholastic Press Association’s

competition in the advertising category. I have also been a part of three State Journalism Championships

that have been won by the multimedia department. Journalism has taught me to do things in a timely

manner, meet strict deadlines, and work under pressure; I believe this will help me tremendously in the

future in the salon industry.

In addition to my work inside the classroom, I have had the opportunity to be involved in two

internships during my senior year. The first was a marketing internship where I worked on marketing and

sales of various Humboldt businesses. The second one I interned at Bella Capelli Salon where I shadowed

other stylist.

I have worked for Humboldt Rec for seven summers as a swim instructor and a scorekeeper for

little league baseball and softball. I then worked at Opie’s Family Restaurant as a waitress for a year and

am currently working at Loop & Knot as a sales associate and at Our Market as a manager.
After completing the manicure program, I will apply to work at a salon to work toward getting a

steady clientele. However, my ultimate goal is to own my own salon one day that offers booth rentals for

other technicians and also offer other special services such as: lashes, brows, facials, etc.

In regards to my financial situation, both my parents work full time to provide for me and my

siblings while still maintaining our everyday needs. We have always been encouraged to work for what

we want in life and in order to achieve our goals we have to work for it. I have worked since I was 10

years old with the Humboldt Rec and currently am a manager at Our Market and sales associate at Loop

& Knot. Any and all financial help would be greatly appreciated.

I am applying for this scholarship to help me be able to pursue my career dreams. Since I am not

applying to a University my options to apply for scholarships are limited. I appreciate your consideration,

and I hope that your organization can help me pursue my career. This is my passion, and I plan to turn

this passion into a career.
