Dear Dr.

Naqqa Abbas,

I hope this email finds you well and safe.

I am a member of Group 1 in the ENGL-210 course, and I would like to give a report on
everything that me and my group have accomplished in our research project. I would
state what problem our group has identified in Qatar, what solution we had come up
with, highlights of our research that backs up the identified problem and solution, what
would be our next steps for me and my group, and what part is assigned to me for
Project 1.

Our focus on this research project is the Green House Gas (GHG) emissions in Qatar.
Qatar has ranked number 1 in the highest Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions per Capita
in 2018, according to the World Bank. The main reason for this high GHG emission is
because Qatar is one of the largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) producers in the world,
with an export capacity of 77.4 million metric tons per year, as of 2021, according to
statista.com. Whilst this statistic doesn’t consider that a substantial amount of CO2
emitted is used for exporting to other countries, this amount of CO2 emitted would most
definitely lead to an accelerated Global Warming process.

Global Warming is one of the highlights of the Qatar Vision 2030. Therefore, my group
has decided to specifically investigate ways to counteract Global Warming, by
specifically focusing on the CO2 that has been emitted. After hours of research and
brainstorming, we decided to research technology that captures CO2. This is because
Qatar itself aims to reduce GHG emissions by 25% in 2030. Consequently, we found
out that there is already a facility at Ras Laffan, that captures 2.1 million tons of CO2
per year.

We are now researching the technicalities of this facility, and methods on how Carbon
Capturing Technology can be improved. Until now, we have found multiple large-scale
Carbon Capturers across the world like the Shell Quest project in Alberta, which has
surpassed 5 million tons of CO2 being removed.

Currently, we are finding it difficult to find out how the Carbon Capturing facilities work,
and how can the efficiency of CO2 removal be improved. Therefore, we would need
more time to research and find out specific methods of improving CO2 capturing in
Qatar in a sustainable manner. Until now, we have already identified the problem,
purpose, and objectives of our research. We only need to work on defining the scope of
our project, gather more research on the Carbon Capturing innovations and released
products, and then define the user needs and design constraints. I would be in charge
of laying out the user needs and design constraints for Project 1.
I hope that our advancements until now are clear, and parts of our problem statement
well defined. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my group.

Best Regards
