Painting with Bob Ross- Day 4

Grade: 1st
Lesson Type: Whole group

Objective: Students will be able to paint their own


picture of Florida scenery inspired by Bob
Ross.

Standard(s): LAFS.1.RL.3.7 Use illustrations and


details in a story to describe its
characters, setting, or events.
SS.A.1.2.1 Understand history tells the
story of people and events of other times
and places.

Materials: -Mini Canvases


-Paint brushes
-Different colors of paint
-Water
-Paper plates
-Paper towels
-Pencils to sketch(optional)

Procedures 1. The class will gather around the


teacher on the reading carpet as the
teacher reads aloud “Happy Little
Accidents: The Wit and Wisdom of Bob
Ross.”
2. Then there will be a class discussion
about Bob Ross and the teacher will
show some of his pieces of art using
the book and finding videos on the
computer.
3. Students will learn that a mistake is
just a happy accident in painting.
4. Every student will receive a mini
canvas with paint brushes, colors of
paint on a paper plate, and a small
cup of water to clean the brushes.
5. The students will begin to brainstorm
their favorite type of scenery they
have seen in Florida, for example a
sunset, beach, rainstorm, etc.
6. After every student has finished
their mini paintings they will share
with a partner what they painted and
why.
7. Then they will set the paintings
aside to dry, clean up their areas,
and the paintings will be used as
decoration in the classroom to show
off their creativity and knowledge.
