 Review map information by reading and analyzing the poem “Maps” by Carol Weston
o

o Each student should receive a copy of the poem

o After reading the poem together, discuss the importance of maps

 Globes

o Show the globe to the class and explain that just as maps are important, globes are

important too

o Explain that globes, just like maps, show the earth, but that globes are round and

show the whole earth while maps can show parts of the earth and are flat
o Listen to the read aloud Maps are Flat, Globes are Round

o After listening to the read aloud, ask students to recall important information

about globes, specifically.

o Clarify that globes can also be used to locate things, but that maps are easier to

use when locating very specific things, like your house or the library

o Create a Venn diagram on the board and have students come up with differences

and similarities between maps and globes

Evaluation
