Review map information by reading and analyzing the poem “Maps” by Carol Weston

Globes
o Show the globe to the class and explain that just as maps are important, globes are
important too
o Explain that globes, just like maps, show the earth, but that globes are round and
show the whole earth while maps can show parts of the earth and are flat
o Listen to the read aloud Maps are Flat, Globes are Round
o After listening to the read aloud, ask students to recall important information
o Clarify that globes can also be used to locate things, but that maps are easier to
use when locating very specific things, like your house or the library
o Create a Venn diagram on the board and have students come up with differences
Evaluation
Using a FlipGrid or a piece of paper, students will explain the main difference between maps and
globes.
