MEANING OF THE
SENTENCE
This is very frequently used
by Filipinos, and is said out
of courtesy before leaving. It
is actually a literal translation
of the Tagalog Mauna na
ako, which is a polite way of
asking permission to leave
before the other person
during a get together.
This phrase is used when you
want to express that it is
raining very heavily outside.
For instance, “This summer
was not good because it was
‘raining cats and dogs’ on
many of the weekends.”
