Read Aloud with Comprehension & Tier 2
Word
The teacher will read the story “ Jolly Olly
Octopus” by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Rees.
Tier 2 word: Giggle
Writing
After reading the story in the student writing
journal, I have them write one sentence about their
favorite part of the story.
Student Reads
Students will read the story “Ben’s Hen” by Miss
Kindergarten.
Comprehension strategy: Illustrate a picture of
your favorite scene.
Word Study
Students will play a “Go Fish” sight word game.
Each player will get five cards and follow the same
rules as the card game “go fish.”
Students will then play a word building game with
CVC words. Students will roll the word family
cube to find rhyme and onset sound. Students will
write answers in a worksheet and read new words.
Repeated Reading
Students will re-read the story “Ben’s Hen” by
Miss Kindergarten.

Anecdotal Notes
Today I let my student pick out the book she would like to
read to help her become more excited about reading. She
picked the “Jolly Olly Octopus” for us to read which was a
funny book.
The student was not doing well sitting today, so I decided to
pass this part of our lesson and go straight to having her
practice reading the story “Ben’s Hen.” I had her read this
story three times throughout our whole lesson today.
The student had a lot of fun with the “Go fish” sight word
game and was laughing the whole time. The only word she
still struggles with is “where” which she always reads as
“what.” Other than this her sight word reading has been
going really well.
The student loves the CVC word activity and I think it is
going to be something I keep doing with her over and over
again. Her blending skills have really improved, which is
awesome to see!
My student was very wiggly today, so at the end which the
extra time I place sight words in the hallway to play an “I
Spy” game with for the student to find the words and bring
that back to me till it was time to go.
