Philosophy of Education

The role of a teacher is to not only provide topic-based content, information about
historical figures and events, but to also instill within students various skills and approaches that
help foster critical thinking and problem solving that will help them be not only successful in an
academic environment, but also the real world too. As someone that values growth mindset, my
approach to education is to help students build a skillset that lets them think about the world, and
to interpret the copious amounts of information that circulates around the world. The 21st
Century is ever-so-changing, and to foster student growth mindset, it is my task as a teacher to
educate and provide students the skill to critically think, analyze, and interpret the information
that circulates around the world.
Thinking in the lens of an educator, my goal is to facilitate lessons that provide students
with experience in critical thinking as well as analysis of information that is presented
throughout the 21st century as to create students that are aware of the changing society around
them. The point for establishing and working on this particular set of goals would be to help
students become, and participate, as a member of society, and to approach real world problems
without biases or influences from media and other outlets in which information is presented
globally.
As for the content in which I teach, my goal is to establish a curriculum that allows
student voice in choice as to encourage as much as possible, a student-driven classroom
environment. To achieve this goal, a major aspect of my teaching is to include technology, such
as Google Classroom, as a means to be inclusive to all students, both present and absent alike,
but to also provide to students interesting activities that give students who learn auditorily,
kinesthetically, and even visually a chance to utilize their method of learning to influence their
success as a student and to work towards becoming a strong and thoughtful member of society.
Creating a classroom and a Google Classroom that is student-driven establishes a class that is
interested in student based-learning which fosters a class that values student differences in terms
of education. When a classroom is set up in this way, there are more opportunities for learning to
occur that holds students responsible for their own critical thinking, and in turn creates more
memorable learning experiences within the academic environment.
Giving students the means to express how they learn as well as the skill set that helps
them establish themselves as members of society will in turn create more interesting and
powerful learning experiences. Along with those experiences, my expectations are that students
will be able to challenge the norms of society and contribute to conversations regarding change,
but to also connect content learned to society of the 21st century.
