Building Your Plan Together

The purpose of this tool is to help you plan your activities

collaboratively in order to work toward your common goal.

Common Goal:

Begin by writing your initiating activity. Then, choose different follow-up activities that can:

● build upon previous learning ● reinvest student learning

● introduce new concepts ● check for understanding
● assess impact on students ● reinforce the understanding of a difficult
concept

As you plan together, consider the following questions:

➢ Are the planned activities helping you work toward your common goal?
➢ What tools or methods will you use to gather information about your common goal?
➢ How will you keep each other informed as your collaboration moves along?

Go with the flow
Use the boxes to help you and your partner develop an outline of activities.
This is an opportunity to design lessons and activities that purposefully
address your common goal. Ask yourself: How does this activity or lesson
connect and build upon the previous one?
Plan with purpose
An initiating activity can begin in the English or French class and it can
take more than one lesson. Also, you may have three consecutive boxes
of activities taking place in the English class. There is no obligation to
alternate. The learning activities you choose or create, are purposefully
developed to address your common goal.
Remain open to change.
Working with your partner while developing your plan, may lead to further
discussions about modifying your common goal. This is a good thing. As
you delve deeper into your discussions, go back and refine your common
goal as needed.

Dare to be different!
Keep in mind that although you are both working toward a common goal
you are not repeating instruction in each of the classes. The idea is to
build upon each lesson to go further and save time. Repetition can occur
if it is purposeful.
Keep communication ongoing!
Use this planner as a communication tool between you and your partner
throughout your collaboration. You can choose to share an online version
to keep each other informed or bring it to your "check-in meetings" to
keep track of any modification or adjustments.

Plan ahead.
This is a good time to consider how you will gather information about
your common goal and add it to your plan. See the Gathering Information
tool below.

Be flexible.
As you use this tool to plan your activities, remember to keep in mind
how much time you will need to address your common goal. Consider
school events and special holidays and try to be flexible in order to
account for any adjustments.
